NRA Calls for Armed Police in every School

I for one agree with this, I think it is much better than arming teachers.

Why not also put bars on the windows and doors? Let's make it more like a prison.

Seriously, there's what, almost a hundred thousand schools in this country? That's got to be a $10 billion dollar idea that guy's got.

NRA must be panicing that the the liberals will out-government-solution them with this idea.

So when cops show up across the country to hang around the schools as a show of support it is awesome and cool, but the thought of having these people that are trained to stop the bad guys there permanently is a bad idea?

Why not institute a state tax on assault weapons/high count magazines to help fund this then?

In Georgia, we already have programs like this in our public schools. They work remarkably well. Aside from just protecting against something like an active shooter, they also handle things like arresting kids that are fighting or removing troublemakers without teacher involvement.

It's fiscally difficult to fund this, let alone find the number of new officers to be placed in the schools:

I'd hope cops would be out preventing crime or chasing down bad guys. If they want to swing by a school to calm folks down after something like the CT incident, that's fine. An extra 100,000 cops to sit in schools where virtually no violent crime occurs is a terrible waste of resources.

If your schools is where the crime is, I can understand having cops there. Most schools aren't violent high schools that require cops to break up fights or other violence. A full time cop in every small town at every elementary school is very, very expensive.

I might go along with that if its trained law enforcement personnel. Along with banning assault weapons and politicians stop becoming paid puppets of the NRA.

Regardless I feel that there is a way to achieve this and I think it is a true viable alternative to doing nothing.

I think a true viable alternative would be to provide police in high crime areas. That would have stopped the most recent shooting however. As it is, like Danman said, it would be a huge waste of resources to provide armed police in areas with 20 kid schools and 2 sheriffs covering half the county.

Ok but not every area is some small town with 2 sheriffs, besides this would be something the individual states would take on so there are bound to be different strategies put into play.

Mass shootings (4+ deaths I believe the FBI considers) or school shootings?

So how do you handle those schools? Hence the infeasibility of what was suggested.
