The media is pretty much completely ignorant about weapons.
Some second amendment advocates are ignorant about weapons types as well.

What is being removed in the car has already been identified by experts on pro second amendment types as not Lanza's AR but an automatic shotgun.


None of this back and forth goes to the real issue which is that: Lanza with a 100 year old 1911 45cal semitauto pistol and 20 or 30 ten round clips, could have killed way more children huddled in a mass as thought by lock down exercise than with an AR.

- accuracy at longer range

disadvantages:
No concealablity

advantages of his 30 round mags over 10,12 or 15:
EXPERT defenders can take advantage of the 1.2 second pause in reloading a gun with mags.

he barely engadge the police, he fire a couple of randon shots and then killed himself.

The 30 round long gun AR -15 gave him no lethality advantage over a ten round 45 semi auto pistol in the school against children and surprised unarmed teachers.

This guy was INSANE. He was playing ultra violent visceral realistic first person shooter videogames 48 hours at a clip.

Anyone attempting to take any lesson and apply it to the general public, gun owners or not are irresponsible. The HUGE mass of violence in the US is committed by existing felons or misdemeanor offenders who are put into jails with felons and released.

Scapegoating and distraction are the stock and trade of politicians on the left and right.

The solutions to gun violence are way longer sentences for violent felons. violent crime is DIRECTLY related to the number of felons on the streets. Chicigo and NY have similar gun control but Chicago has double proportionate the gun crime as NY and double the number rof felons on the streets.

Leave the ignorance and tinfoil stuff out, concentrate on real solutions based on FACT: Longer sentences for hardcore criminals, isolation of hardcore criminals from younger misdemeanor offenders, better mental health, addition of adjudicated dangerous persons to the FBI list (VA tech had been adjudicated dangerous before his weapon purchase); and leave alone legal gun onwer who actually make society generally safer.
