Apple’s laptop lineup could become even more enticing next month. The electronics giant is reportedly planning to announce a MacBook Pro running on the yet-to-be-revealed M2 chipset. The product would allegedly take the place of the current 13-inch MacBook. However, it wouldn’t feature the Mini LED ProMotion display seen on the larger 14-inch and 16-inch models.
The rumors stem from the latest DigiTimes report. It claims production for the MacBook Pro M2 continued running throughout the Lunar New Year holiday. The ompany is shooting for an early March reveal. Prior to this, analysts believed an updated MacBook Pro wouldn’t arrive until the second half of 2022.
A new MacBook Pro isn’t the only device rumored for a March reveal. Apple fans shouldn’t get too excited yet, but we could also see a new Mac Mini, MacBook Air and iMac. All of these electronics are expected to feature the new M2 chip. The chip should significantly improve performance, although its technical specs remain unknown.
Aside from a new chipset, the rumored MacBook Pro might also remove the Touch Bar seen on the 2021 model. As it stands, the 13-inch version is the only MacBook Pro with the feature. Beyond that, much of the hardware powering the new model will remain unchanged.
Apple’s M1 chip first arrived in 2020, with most of its subsequent releases making full use of the technology. The cheapest laptop with the processor sold for $999. It offered a surprisingly affordable price tag for such a premium product. Pricing for the rumored MacBook Pro M2 wasn’t mentioned in the latest report. We’d expect it to remain one of the most approachable options in Apple’s stable of notebooks.
We’re also bound to hear about the next batch of iPhones in the coming months. Speculation earlier this month pointed to a March 8 reveal for the iPhone SE 3. It seems as if Apple is all but guaranteed to hold a showcase next month. Still, it’s hard to say with certainty which upcoming products will be on display. The electronics giant could reveal all the above (that is, several new Mac products and iPhones). But we wouldn’t be surprised if the announcements were split into two different events.
For now, it might be wise to hold off on purchasing an iPhone or MacBook. If new products are actually revealed next month, we’d expect to see impressive sales. That would include current-gen products, of course, as retailers clear inventory for upcoming releases.
