But the most recent Amazon cashback ($10) promotion is trying to convince buyers to use Amazon Cash, a less mainstream form of payment that works just like a gift card.
Amazon is now giving a $10 credit to anyone who has never used the service if they load $50 or more onto a new account. The promotion runs until July 31st, and it takes just a few minutes to qualify for your free cash, although it works a bit differently than you’d expect.
What Is Amazon Cash and How Does It Work?
Even if you’re an avid Amazon shopper, there’s a good chance you’re not familiar with Amazon Cash. The often-overlooked payment method requires you to head to participating retailers, such as Walgreens, CVS, GameStop or Speedway, and physically add money to your virtual account.
This step means printing out a barcode, finding a nearby Amazon Cash partner and waiting in line for a cashier to add money to your Amazon Cash balance.
Despite its odd requirements for adding funds, Amazon Cash is still useful as it can help you better manage your spending and is a highly secure form of payment. Because it doesn’t require you to enter your credentials online – your payment information is given to a cashier like any normal brick-and-mortar transaction – some people actually prefer this added layer of security.
Amazon Cash also gives you an easy way to use real cash to add money to your Amazon account. Any Amazon Cash you deposit gets added to your account as a gift card, and you’re free to use it on any items sold directly by Amazon – only third-party purchases are restricted.
In other words, think of Amazon Cash as a gift card that you purchase for your own personal use.
How To Claim Your Free $10 Amazon Cash Credit
The most compelling reason to use Amazon Cash, however, is for the free $10 Amazon Cash promotion that’s running until July 31st. If you’ve never used Amazon Cash before, a new promotion is available that adds an additional $10 to your account after depositing $50 or more. Using the system is easy, although it’s not as straightforward as logging into your account and entering your credit card info.
Here’s how to claim your free $10 Amazon Cash credit:
- Find a participating store using the Store Locator.
- Log in to your Amazon account and get an Amazon Cash barcode. Print this out or have it sent to your mobile phone. If you’ve verified your phone number on Amazon, you can ignore this step.
- Head to the nearest participating retailer and ask the cashier to scan your barcode. You can also provide your phone number if it’s been verified by Amazon, and the money will be automatically added to your account.
- Add at least $50 to your Amazon Cash account. Cash, debit and credit cards are all typically accepted, although this can vary by location.
- An additional $10 will automatically be added to your Amazon account during your next Amazon transaction.

Don’t Miss This Opportunity: Amazon Cash Promotions Are Rare
Amazon loves to hold money-saving promotions, but when it comes to Amazon Cash, this current offer is an outlier. Every so often, Amazon will offer an additional $5 when adding $20 to your account, but it’s not a promotion that comes around frequently. We saw a similar event earlier this year, but that was limited to using Allpoint+ ATMs, which don’t have a wide distribution across the country. It’s unlikely you were able to take advantage of the $5 credit.
With this current promotion, Amazon has expanded to include several retailers where you can pick up your free $10 Amazon Cash credit after loading your account with $50 or more, making this opportunity accessible to consumers like you.
