How to Save at Costco
Start saving by picking the right membership. A basic membership costs $55, but if you have a large family or know you’ll be doing a lot of shopping at Costco, go for the Executive Membership. It costs $110 annually, but you’ll earn a 2% reward (up to $750) on all eligible purchases, which is mailed to you around your renewal date. You’ll likely get the cost of the upgraded membership paid for and might even get enough to cover your membership fees for the next year. Also, while there is no longer a Costco trial membership available, they do offer a satisfaction guarantee, so you can get your membership refunded at any time if you are not satisfied.
Take advantage of Costco coupons. While Costco does not take manufacturer coupons, they do put out the Costco coupon book, which will let you know what deals are available. You can also find the occasional promo code, though these are often in the form of Costco photo promo codes, Costco tires coupons and other discounts on specialty services. For example, you could find coupons offering an extra $60 off any set of 4 Bridgestone Tires or up to $700 off select mattresses.
Download the Costco mobile app to keep your savings organized. You’re also likely to find slick Costco TV deals, as well as big savings on other electronics, like up to $700 off laptops, and smaller dollar-off amounts on household items and groceries.
Learn about their not-so-secret price codes. Items with prices ending in .97 are on clearance, while prices that end in .88 or .00 are manager markdowns. If the price tag has an asterisk on it, that means the item has been discontinued, so better stock up if the price is right.
Take full advantage of Costco’s best deals. Their store brand, Kirkland’s, is typically high quality and often comes from the same manufacturers as brand name products, but at a fraction of the price. You’ll also want to shop the middle of the store, where prices are marked down aggressively. And if you’re looking for a cheap lunch, their $1.50 hot dog and drink combo is fantastic. But for some real savings, just hit up the many sample stations during lunchtime and really get your fill (they encourage unlimited samples!)
Consider the Costco Auto Program, which offers low pricing just for Costco members on all sorts of cars, along with trained and authorized dealers to help you through the process.
Costco Return Policy
Costco stands behinds their products and promises to refund most purchases if you are not satisfied. There are some exceptions to this policy, though. For example, electronics must be returned within 90 days of purchase, and the retailer does not accept returns of tobacco, alcohol or products with a limited life expectancy, such as batteries or tires.
Costco Payment Methods
Costco now accepts most types of payment, including cash, checks, debit cards, EBT, Visa and Costco credit cards or Costco cash cards. However, if you’re shopping online at Costco.com or at Costco gas stations and car washes, you will not be able to use cash, checks or EBT.
