I just found out that I can purchase good synthetic oil at walmart and then have them change the oil in my work van. The price was $19.99 for the full package of labor and material up to 5qt of oil but if you bring your own oil for changing then they will partially reduce the bill for customer material.

You can actually watch them change the oil so as to make sure it is your own oil that they are using.

I did this for one of my big diesel utility van, took ~2.5 gallon of synthetic oil, the price for those shell oil where about $17 bucks per gallon, plus their labor of $9.90, my entire oil change cost was $60.9 for synthetic oil on a diesel van. It will be much less if you have a passenger car. My local shop quote me $30 bucks for just the labor and the other dealership quoted me $80 for using regular oil.

Great deal if you have a walmart near you that does oil change, just be nice to them and they can also install free wipers. lol (just ask them nicely after you have purchased the wipers and they are driving your car out of the shop.)

They also have great Rain-x wipers those slick good looking type thats for $7 any size from 18" to 26", not sure if its regionally or not but those Rainx wipers were right beside their service desk. The ones on regular shelves where much more expensive.

Btw, they don't show this on their list of services, you will ask them about bringing your own oil and have them does the oil change with filter. They will reduce the price when you are ringing up.

I wouldn't let those monkeys at Walmart ever touch my car again. Bought tires there, and when I went to Costco to get tires the next time they had to break a stud because of how Walmart put the lug nut on. Plus right after I bought the tires at Walmart I thought the car was taking bumps kind of hard. So I checked the tire pressure and every tire had close to 50 pounds of pressure.

Not bad. It's worth $10 just to not have to lug your old oil back to a recycling center. I wonder if I could take them my own torque wrench...

laugh out loud I guess experience can vary regionally, good thing I only went in for oil change and watch them did the entire process. The guy that did my car was pretty professional about it, checked the filter and oil that I bought to make sure its actually the type that my van needs. Did everything plus help me install new wipers for free, without telling the front desk of course.

If you don't know how to change your own wiper, you shouldn't be driving a car
If you are smart enough and get someone to do it for free it's even better than getting your own hands dirty. If you get a ticket then you don't deserve to drive!

Nice catch... plus you have to check air pressures when the tires are cool. If hot (driven on) the PSI is always higher than a cold tire. That said... I understand that some mechanics are better than others even at quality shops with ASE certified technicians. I do my own work from engine rebuilds to (retired bodyman) autobody & paint. Just doesn't feel comfortable letting someone else wrench on my stuff EEK!

same thing happened to me. 50 psi for a few days, thank god the tires didnt burst on me. they had max psi rating of 45

but they are the cheapest for getting a synthetic oil change done, provided you buy your oil and filter on sale.

good deal, i would recommend walmart doing the oil change over any of the "cheaper" places like jiffy lube etc, look up 'jiffy lube scams' on youtube to see what i mean

I have asked before and my local Walmart will NOT do oil change labor only with customer provided oil.

My local inde. mech. only charges $15 labor and I can walk in most morning with no wait. Try that with Walmart.

No, they told me it wouldn't come off and if it was OK if they keep trying and it would probably break. I was standing there watching when it broke.

"Save money" by letting the fools at Wal-Mart Auto Center change your oil, and then spend a lot more to have a competent mechanic repair the damage.
