Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.
Can I cancel after the first year?
Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

For those that have billing date that ends on the 14th/15th and free year of service ending on 04/30/19, what's the best date to port out/cancel so that we won't be charged with new rate plan? Thanks.
Language of the agreement is "savings through" which *should* mean up 'til 5/15. So port out, say, a few day before (~5/12) just in case your port gets stuck. If you're distrustful of the "savings through" language, port out on April 27th and don't look back.

I would check software and make sure it is LS998 software and not US998 software, otherwise you would need flash or send it back.
Someone had similiar problem with a LG V30+ with activating(was accepted by sprint system but would not physically activate on Sprint).
Background Sprint LG v30+(ls998) is approved by Sprint, also LG V30S US998R unlocked approved by Sprint. LGV30+ unlocked model US998U is not approved by Sprint.
My guess you have an LS998 but may be flashed to US998U firmware so IMEI passes but firmware prevents activation. I could not explain FED or reason for not able to swap back on.
From other post seems like BREED was selling LS998 devices flashed with V30+ unlocked firmware and calling them US998U V30+ unlocked devices.
YMMV and only my opinion.

Oh edog11 is right - I forgot about that.
That seems like a very likely possibility, now that he mentions it.
The sellers buy cheaper Sprint models, and then flash them so that they can be sold to work other carriers, but in this case we want the original capabilities to run on Sprint, provided by the original Sprint ROM, not the flashed ROM.

The rep forced me to sign up for the phone protection plan for $15/month. I tried to remove the service online but every time I remove it and sign back into my account the protection plan is still there.

Is sprint good about removing this charge from my bill or will I have to pay it for this month and cancel it next month?

Just use Chat to have it removed (or to confirm that you successfully removed it).

They are completely automatic about it - it only takes a minute.

Get a transcript for peace of mind.

The final net cost after cancellation credit will be either zero or at most less than a dollar for the one day since it is prorated.

So if I were to help a friend sign up for the $25 unlimited Kickstarter & $15 tablet plan would I qualify for the $50 referral from Sprint on the free plan? Tia Ron 🙂

No you wouldn't. Only a few during initial month(6/2017) were able to get any bonus offers.

Sprint referral site excludes free plan(at bottom)

"Customers on BYOD 1YearFree plan are not eligible for Sprint Referral Rewards program. To qualify for rewards, your referrer must have been an active Sprint customer for more than 24 hours prior to you activating your Sprint service."

Also from old free BYOD page
"May not be combinable with other offers, including but not limited to AAA, AA, Credit Union, Premium International Experience, Port in credits, Prepaid Reward Cards, Referral Rewards programs and IB/Lease promotions."

I signed up for BYOD free plan in Sept 2018. I never added a line to the account because the rep told me my area does not have LTE coverage.

I was finally able to add a line on April 2nd. The rep told me I had to sign up for device protection. I tried to cancel device protection by logging into my account on April 3rd but everytime I hit 'Confirm' and log out the 'device protection' was still there when I log back in.

On April 10th, Sprint sent me the following bill

Billing period Mar 6 - Apr 5, 2019
Total due by April 29 $20.55

I don't know why they are charging me $15 for the entire month.Confused

Unfortunately, wasn't able to fix it.

I am wondering if it is a problem along side the issue with SMS and MMS.

They did the same for me. I believe they will prorate it on your next bill, hopefully? 🙂

Attempted to swap from a Nexus 6P to a Galaxy S9 unlocked today (both fully paid devices purchased outside of sprint), was told I needed new sim by chat. Went into sprint store and they told me I couldn't swap devices without changing to the $60/mo plan. Was the rep feeding me a line of bs, or has something changed.

Can I just buy a new sim, and go through the online swap myself??

They always charge up front and then credit back later.
So it will appear as
Debit $15
and then later
Credit $15
to offset it.

However the online site is tricky and you may not have done it just right. You have to hit "Save" at the end. If you did not get an email confirmation, it did not take. I did not do it right at first either.

That is why I tell people to just use Chat to do it. Then whenever I do that. people follow up and say, no, do it online. Easy for them to say, but in actual fact a lot of people do not do it exactly right when they do it online and it does not get saved and we go this through this.

Just do Chat now to do it and/or confirm it.

Also check the end date of your plan. Ask them to give you to April 30, 2020 if you do not have that date now, since you delayed activating your first line.

Check your plan details in the My Sprint app on the phone to see the end date.

Yes they were correct - the store cannot touch this plan or it will switch to a paid plan.

You have to do it yourself all on your own.

See the wiki for how to identify and get the sim for $2.99 or less from an online link if the store will not sell it to you alone. A corporate store should be willing to sell you the 4-in-ine kit for $2.99 though since you are an existing customer. Or just give you the sim. But some are stingy.
