...export the raw data from the ancestry service to promethease.com ($5) and geneticgenie and some other sites and get all the medical data you could ever want.

Darn, no discount for the health reports... Still $199
Using RAW DNA from 23andme Ancestry you can get all available Health info at https://promethease.com/
I've done this one, the DNA + Health Reports. You definitely want the health reports, because the DNA test itself isn't super helpful. If you have European ancestry, it'll probably get you in the right place (it said I'm 12% British/Irish), but for anything else, you just get a general area (72% West Africa). Which, I know my ancestry is from West Africa, but it can't get more precise than that.

Basically, their information is only as good as their DNA pool, so they have some specific results for Europeans and everyone else gets a general region. Also, you get your region and then some random facts, like how your genetics say your middle toe is longer than your big toe, or you can smell asparagus in your urine. That's cool, but not worth the price. The Health Reports are good as they test against a bunch of diseases. They even ran an additional test after they'd given me my results, because apparently a test for Celiac Disease became available. That part was nice.

Was just about to come post this. I missed out on the Amazon Prime Day Deal and now that my Husband wants one too, the 2 for $99 is the same price.

I looked at the sample report, seems like the basic service is the starter into the DNA testing world.

Can you upgrade to get the other results later if desired?

Anyone done the basic service before that can share their thoughts on its value? I'm not looking at this from a health perspective but more just knowing a little bit of the family background.

Does the Ancestry Service which includes "Access your raw, uninterpreted genetic data file" have the health data also in it, but uninterpreted?

If it includes all the raw data, then 3rd party sites can analyze it and recover the non-ancestory related stuff that is interesting.

Apparently, you can buy the health information at a later point for $125. So, if you buy two of these for $50 each, you can give one as a gift and add $125 to your own for a total of $175 (for you).
