Hi tensil steel and the lowest tier shimano components. It's like barely better than a huffy. You'd be better off search CL for a used trek, giant, marin or specialized. I would aim for something with an aluminum frame and atleast acera/alivio components. That's like 1 to 2 steps up from the bottom. If CL scares you check out bikesdirect or wait for a coupon for that bike shop chain. The name isn't coming to me but we have a couple around SF.

Are these good bikes? I'm looking for a bike where I can use indoors on a trainer during the winter and casual riding in the spring/summer months. Wondering if these would be a good option?

4.1 stars out of 5 --- 156 reviews. Should be fine for an indoor trainer.

These are mountain bikes. I would prefer a road or hybrid bike on a trainer. I would also switch out the rear tire to a trainer specific one.

Not as good as Trek bikes
Also not even close to the price. Treks are generally nice along with a lot of other brands you can find at your LBS. This should be better than a Walmart bike but I can't really expand further on that.

This your best bet for indoor/trainer use, since it has smooth road tires: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/nishiki-adult-maricopa-road-bike-16nisanshkmrcp15xbac/16nisansh... [dickssportinggoods.com]

These are very nice bikes. I own the Manitoba hybrid. I'd say these are equal to or better than the diamondbacks I've had which are the mid range ones.

Used to have a vintage Nishiki 10 speed with chro-moly lugged frame.

Seems Nishiki has gone cheap Walmart quality like Schwinn.

Thanks I looked at it but I am 6.0 and no 21 in stock. I'm not sure if 19 will be good for me.

Would the hybrids work as a commuter bike to and from work?

Hybrids are great for commuters. I especially like a hybrid as they are usually a flat bar bike which gives you a more heads up view of the road..and cars. That said, a road or cyclocross bike would be my choice if over a 5 mile commute. For $149. this bike has no downside. Run a pair of road style/slicks on it to make it easier to pedal. People mention craigslist, but finding the correct size, price, type of bike, and then not knowing if the frame has not hairline cracks is a real crapshoot. If one does not like this after riding it for a few months, it should easily bring back or close to the $149.

So, my "bike guy" is an experienced bike guy who happens to work at Dicks as well on the side. From what I understand they're essentially the same product nowadays. The down side is Dicks is getting rid of diamondback and nishiki and moving towards crap like Schwinn among others. I own a diamondback hybrid (for 9years)and a nishiki road bike (did a century ride last August with it) and they're both great bikes.
