These are the HD660 headphones with a slight modification. The difference in sound quality between the HD660 and the Massdrop HD58x is so negligible that there is basically no difference between the two. If you're going to get a headphone and you're debating between the Massdrop HD58x and the 6XX go with the HD58x as you're getting a better set of cans for $50 less, this is a no-brainer. The HD58x have more low end and smoother transition to the mid range than the HD6xx units and the high end is just as intimate as it is on the 6XX. Now the HD58x compared to the HD660, the HD58x is going to have more base and lower high end all due to a piece of Foam that has been installed between the outside of the cans and the driver. This allows for better base response at the expense of the high end. All you have to do is take a part your headphones and remove this outside piece of foam and BAM you got those amazing highs that the 660 has with better low ends than the 6XX (650). The Massdrop 58X and the HD660 use the EXACT SAME DRIVER.

Edit: I own both Massdrop cans and you can't go wrong with either one. If you already have the 6XX and you feel they're a bit lacking in the low end then get the 58x and leave the foam in place for a very noticeable sound difference between the two. If, however, you decide to remove the foam, then you're not really going to notice the difference between the two set of cans unless you're using a Class A Dac/Amp setup.
I own both of these. They're very different in sound. The x2's are a real fun pair with more bass than I've heard in any other open back hp's. It's a real crisp bass though. Not booming or distorted. They have an excellent Soundstage and are my go to pair for gaming. The 58x is a different animal. It's got just the right low end that doesn't bleed into the mids at all and the highs are very accurate and detailed. I find the imaging slightly better on these too. For me, they both have their own place and I don't think I could part with neither of them.
These are not the HD580's or HD580 Jubilees which were basically HD600's.

These are more related to the new HD660S.

Its back and ready to ship. This model is better than HD 6XX because it will be driven by cell phones. HD 6XX are spectacular but apart from LG V series line, you'll need an amp to take full advantage of them.

This is just a different model number of some regular sennheiser headphones that are already out there, right? If so, anyone know the model of the non-massdrop version?

Nope, these are a separate model currently exclusively distributed through massdrop.

Sennheiser HD580 (Jubilee Edition). Sennheiser hasn't made them for quite some time.

How do these compare to the HD6XX in terms of sound quality?

I am by no means an expert, but from what I've heard the 58X is comparable to the HD6XX.
Another thing to note is the 58X seems to not require an additional AMP to drive the headphones. You are supposed to be able to plug the 58X into a phone and it will perform well with no additional AMP.

Does anyone have experience with the HD 280 Pros to compare these against?
Mine are torn to bits (thank you, three year old son trying to look like daddy).

This is actually incorrect. These are the HD660s with a sligh change. these do NOT compare to the 580 Jubilee despite carrying the Jubilee name. This is a very easy mistake to make and actually what I originally thought when i got these.
