Every responsible first responder agency (fire or law enforcement) also has a published 7/10-digit emergency number you can use instead of 9-1-1 (for when the latter crashes).

I prefer to use it. You get right to where you want to be (9-1-1 is answered by a selected local agency, and often has to transfer you to who you actually need - this is particularly true for mobile 9-1-1).

Chiming in.. Yeah I NEVER want to be redirected. So many posts about non-emergency numbers. They won't pick up as quickly. You might hit call tree or be on hold for a while, asked to leave a message etc. You never know what you will get with that. Not to mention they may only have one person responsible for picking up the phone. Many times in 911 situations time is of the essence. So it's either all or nothing for me. If I'm having a heart attack or have an intruder in my home, I don't want to be on hold or make my way though a call tree to the right person.. I also don't want to have to go look up direct numbers for my emergency. Too important to be digging around or dialing a non-emergency number and then redirected. It's worth it to me to pay a little extra for 911

I bought a MagicJack from Walmart B&M for $21.99 a month back and had to return it because someone had already registered a number with it. Someone bought it, used it, and returned it and my local Walmart just kept it back in the shelf for resale 😡.

Is there a way to connect this to router and just have cordless phones throughout the house?

I understand but Obi is free for life. Setup is easy.
.... Only until they decide to bring out a new Obi, making the current one obsolete (like they did with the Obi100 that's just sitting there on my shelf ). Still, Obi turns out to be a lot cheaper until then. I use both a magic jack & an Obi200.

I do that by just connecting the cordless phone base to the MJ. You can also feed the existing phone Jacks in the house by connecting the phone cord from the MJ to 1 of the house's existing phone Jacks after you go to the customer side of your telco box & disconnect it from the outside world.

Yeah he definitely won't be the richest man on the planet after the court system is done with him.

Sure. You just connect it to the main phone and it broadcasts to the others.

In 4 5 ...more years of MJ for ~$125! Thanks OP!

Been using for ~7 years with mult-handset cordless base plugged in directly. Used to backfeed the house, but don't even need to do that any longer.

Set my parents house up with Ooma years ago and it is working way better than expected.
+1

I've been using OOMA since 2011, and it's been stellar. Excellent call quality. Never had an outage. Plus you can just plug the modem right into router, thereby no need to have a PC running for it to work. They also have an OOMA mobile app, that gives you the choice to use as either an outbound or inbound phone device. If you pay for the premium service, it gives you inbound and outbound abilities.

When I first signed up with OOMA, I was paying $3 monthly, now I'm paying $5 monthly.

A good advantage of using a service like OOMA, or even MajicJack, is you can switch ISP's and not have to fuss about switching numbers, just plug the modem into your router, and you're good to go.

Of course, with OOMA, you have to pay an initial up front cost for the modem, which is gonna run you between $50 - $100, depending on being used, sales, or new. I'm still using my original modem, going on 8 years now.

Before I switched to OOMA, I used VONAGE as my phone service. VONAGE was the ABSOLUTE WORST VOIP SERVICE IMAGINABLE. VONAGE was expensive ($30 monthly), and the call quality was absolutely terrible. Switching to OOMA was paradise.

I have Vonage and I stick with it because of the caller id which has the name and number. Are there any other providers that can do the same? I'm tired of paying nearly $38 a month on a service I use less than 5 hours a month.

You should not post this kind of dangerous misinformation.

Call them and inform vonage that you cancel. They move to loyalty dept. Ask them I can pay only 25 bucks per month and not more than that. They will give discount to keep you.

So far vonage call quality is so good for me and I tried to keep price within 25 bucks.

Thanks. I may give that a try.
