I recently got a letter in the mail after I got my car serviced from the dealer from SiriusXM. They have a reward for my "loyalty" but it seems to work on any car that currently has an inactive account. I just tried this on 3 of my cars that have SiriusXM radios and worked on all 3. You don't need a credit card and it automatically cancels after 2 months. You get all the channels including the premium ones.

I didn't have to enter any CC information. Not sure if I will ever use it since I almost exclusively listen to podcasts in the car now. But free is free, so thanks OP. Smilie

I think during my last free trial I listened about 3 times. I don't even see how they stay in business. Maybe just by harassing customers until they give in? People actually pay more than a couple bucks a month for it? I can't imagine paying more than that unless maybe if I were in the middle of nowhere without any data coverage or usable FM stations on my commute.
To each their own I guess.
When It first came out everybody talked about how is going to be the death of FM radio. I knew better and this is before the streaming on your phone started. My opinion is that it should be free and start putting a little advertising on. I think satellite radio actually serves a purpose you need to be more creative when it comes to having people pay.

Well there IS advertising already on the non-music channels...and they apparently still can't make any money. You have to remember the astronomical costs of launching and maintaining those satellites. I have to agree that it was a pipe dream from the start. It SOUNDED good on paper, but in reality it's just not that great. I would never pay for it. I do listen to it a decent amount (I get it free already) and the NFL games are nice but the rest is kinda meh...with streaming and Wi-Fi everywhere, its eventual demise is almost assured. But heck this is a good deal for people with expired subs in the car...just dont ever subscribe.

I tried with my Radio ID and got the "You are not eligible for this trial " message too. This should be a YMMV. Thanks.

Yeah as for the advertising that's one of the things they promoted heavily when they first started about no advertising. We actually allowed Howard Stern too be playing on our office before he went to XM but now because they don't censor it we can't play it

It probably did make sense before ubiquitous data coverage and streaming, but I still have to wonder what made them think WORSE audio quality than FM would be acceptable for a "premium" paid service, even for talk programs. That's just stupid.

True when they first came out the audio quality was actually quite good

You're not missing much, to be honest. I basically haven't listened to Stern since Artie left. Not just because of Artie; coincidently around that same time I stopped commuting ~3 hrs a day....thankfully! But from what my brother tells me, it's not that great anymore. He had his time...he should have retired several years ago.

It wasn't always that crappy. They reduced the Bandwidth so they could add more and more channels. But your point is valid.

There is an on-going three month vehicle trial here [siriusxm.com]. You can typically re-up the free trial if you use new contact info (name, zip and email). Just make sure not to choose any plans and definitely do not give a phone number or credit card number if you just want the free trial and not deal with renewal requests or unexpected charges.

Yeah, free is free. I did briefly debate over whether another trial would be worth the subsequent harassment trying to get me to subscribe, but ultimately decided that no, it's not. I think I've finally almost gotten them to stop bugging me since the last one, months ago.
I can't help but suspect they might actually bring in more revenue if they would give up in trying to charge so much.
The same applies to a lot of things, like digital access to my local paper. I'd happily pay a couple bucks a month, but they want 4 times that and still demand I turn off ad block, so instead they get $0 from me, just like SiriusXM does.
