Why do you legitimately smoke cigarettes?

Why do you legitimately smoke cigarettes? I'm looking for reasons specifically to cigarettes. I don't think "because it relieves stress" or "calms nerves" is a legitimate reason. You're stressful because you're addicted to the crap in them, so taking in more of it calms that addiction for a bit.
Cigarettes make you stink, give you cancer, gives you asthma or emphysema, turn you old fast, make your teeth fall out, waste tons of money...so what do people see in them? I see couples where 1 doesn't smoke. How can you kiss someone who's breath smells like an ash tray?

Most people started smoking when they were kids because they wanted to rebel and "be cool."
Almost everyone I talk to about smoking cessation tells me they wish they had never started. Many, many people have a very hard time stopping because nicotine addiction is physical as well as psychological and they feel like shit when they try to stop. It takes most people 4 or 5 tries to finally quit for good.

Cigarettes don't "give you asthma" as Asthma is a hereditary illness.
