You could do that if you want to buy from an unknown seller but if you prefer to buy from an official store (Amazon.com) backed by Amazon's return policy then its better then its better to buy it from Amazon in case something goes wrong within the first 1-2 months, I think Amazon gives customers like 90 days for returns?
I guess if you want that peace of mind, that's an option. Also Amazon do have Amex discounts to take advantage of that I've used in the past for the NAS as well.
and they don't charge sales tax for much of the country

this could be had for multiple times in the $450's using the eBay coupon

Well hopefully we see that price agian soon :-) but we might have to wait for black friday or something like that to get such a discount from eBay since typing in DS918+ into slickdeals search the last time it came up for a discount was November 2018.
