This ASUS OnHub SRT-AC1900 Router is easy to setup w/ the Google On App and Wave Controls; up to 1900 Mbps data transfer speed w/ Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and USB 3.0 for connecting wired devices.
Pretty much one difference. The tp-link has a parabolic antenna that makes it more directional so better for corners or against exterior walls when you don't need/want a lot of backwards signal. The asus doesn't have that and is more suited to centralized locations. I have both. I use a tp-link in the corner downstairs where my internet connection comes in, pointed at the opposite corner, an asus on the second floor in the middle and another tp-link on the 3rd floor in the opposite corner from the first floor one, pointed at that opposite corner.
Big house and I get 5GHz everywhere and have to drive about 200 yards from the house before the signal drops.
Nope and its unlikely to ever be able to run alternate firmwares because its pretty tightly locked down.
Its basically a chromebox with amped up routing software and a bunch of big antennae.
Low/no configuration, can be used standalone or in a mesh, automatically updates its firmware and adjusts channels for both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks every ~5 minutes or so to avoid congestion with neighbors, but you CAN dig in and change a lot of settings. Still getting regular updates from google. Really a set it and forget it product.
Asus gives a better signal. I have both...

Any differences between the ASUS and the TP-Link OnHub? I heard the latter is better if you plan on doing a mesh network but I have a small studio so either one should be good no?
