Hello mobile review

I just want to share my review for hello mobile as a lot of people would be interested in it after current tello pay as you go issue.

1. I had a sprint sim card so i didn't have to wait for them to ship the sim card. A lot of people initially complaint that they never got the sim card but were being charged in the meantime. i wanted to check the service so i took new no. from them instead of porting my primary number.

2. i choose $5 plan and got 2 months as offer. services started great. it took less than 10-20 minutes for service to start including their "network reset" procedure.

3. I have better sprint network in my area than t-mobile. Mint mobile was pathetic in my area with pages barely loading. I didn't checked speed but it was good enough for browsing and youtube 1080p didn't buffered.

4. after trying for a week, making calls and using sprint's visual voicemail app (premium is free for 15 days which is at 2 or 3 $ per month, else ad supported is free), i thought to move my primary number to it.

Now comes the horror part. I placed order for a sim under "byod". Placing order was a nightmare. I have to try multiple times and it kept on looping on different pages. Maybe I was using the same IMEI which was already activated in their system (as I only have one sprint compatible phone). Somehow i was able to place order and i have no idea if i can reproduce it again as it was really confusing.

It's been 2 days since tracking number have been provided and UPS haven't yet received the package. Then I noticed on UPS site that it have been shipped to billing address instead of the location where I am using it. They took 2 address while sign up, billing and area of use. Both are different for me as I am temporary staying in another state.

So today, I chatted them and asked if they can reship the sim to new address. The chat support was too slow. they takes lot of time to respond. it took me 4-5 messages to convey the message i need sim at new address. else everytime the person was saying to contact them once i get package. and i was like, that sim will be delivered 500 miles away from my current location. after couple of back and forth messages, the CS placed a new order for sim at my new address.

From last 2-3 days i was not using that phone so i thought let's use it more frequent in the mean time the new sim arrives. so that i will get to know the service and decide if i want to port my primary number to hello mobile or not.

on inserting the sim again, whooaah. it's not working. tried network reset and still no luck. the CS asked me ICCID and told it doesn't match in their system and to call them for support. CS was useless.

i called phone support and they were not available 2 hrs before the working hours. that's when i decided, i am not taking my primary number to hello.

i asked two CS to provide me with port out info and they rejected it. i informed one that FCC doesnt give you that authority to which they said we cannot provide unless you give reason. DENIED ON MY FACE.

now comes funny story. i chatted again and said i want to port out, give me port out info. i told i am not having network and CS is useless. phone support was not available hours before their working hours. and then based on response i came to know that their changed the SIM card number. WTH. the new sim card which was for new line, they swapped my current line with that ICCID and hence i was not having network. This CS didn't accepted it have been changed but he said this is ICCID for your number and sim is in processing.

I am taking my number to another provider but not hello mobile. tello gives $10.7 for 1gb +unlimited call including tax whereas hello gave at $10 including international calling to the country where i call which is another $3 pm via google voice. i guess i'll check with tello instead of hello mobile.

and they never gave me port out info. LMAO

If you have a working sprint phone with sprint SIM there should be ZERO problem at all. Hello is probably the best option for most when the free 1 year promotion ends. We have 4 lines on the unlimited and it is perfect.
Are you still liking the service? I am in a great Sprint and TMobile coverage area and my Sprint free year ends at the end of April.

Yes we are still with Hello. Can't beat the price. At work I got 50+mbps while my coworkers on Vzw struggle to stream music.

My Sprint BYOD will be ending on 3/31. Beginning of the week, I went ahead and ported to Hello Mobile. Here is my experience. Subscribing the service is very easy. You pay for it, it will take you into their account to active each phone. Make sure you use your Sprint phone number as Hello Mobile account phone number. This will allow you to use your Sprint Sim to activate your line and port your number almost instantly. My Android phone ported in 10 minutes. iPhone tooks about 3 hours.

Here are some tips:
1. Make sure you pay off your Sprint account first and try to port the "MAIN" number first. It took me 2 days for Sprint to clear my account balance so I can port the main number.

2. If it still shows financial obligation on your Sprint account. Make sure you chat with Sprint and ask Sprint to "release" and "unlock" your phones and wait for a day to try again.

Overall, it's very easy experience. Everything can be done online. Hello Mobile's chat and CS are easy to reach. All my 5 lines are working good so far. Right now, they offer 1 month free. In my case, $85 for 5 lines for two month ($42.50) a month.

My sprint free yr is coming to end this month. When I used HM IMEI tool, 2 of my newer iPhones show financial obligations even I bought them sim free from Apple and certainly don't owe sprint anything. Did u run into the same issue? I chatted with HM agent, he said this means the phones are locked. I cannot see why sprint would have any right to lock them. I appreciate any additional information u can share. Thanks

Yes, I ran into similar situation. Here are what you should do:
1. Make sure you pay off all your remaining balance shows on Sprint account.
2. Make sure you pay off any apple watch, accessories that you have in your Sprint account. (I had an Apple watch that I was thinking to keep on payment plan, unfortunately, I can't. I had to pay it off).
3. Wait about 24 hours. Go to HM and see if your status clears. If not, chat with Sprint and make sure they "release" or "unlock" your phone imei from your account. And wait another 24 hours. That's how I got my iphone to clear.

Hello Mobile is pretty much fraud, stay away from them. I tried to switch over 2 lines, CS was never able to help. I was on Sprint prior so I was expecting easy transition. One of the CS said I needed a SIM from Hello Mobile and the only way I could get a SIM would be to start the porting process. So it meant I would lose service for a few days while the SIM was being shipped. That's absolutely unacceptable. I decided not to go with them at that point. Then I found out that they charged me $40 for two lines even though I never activated my lines. I asked them for a refund, then said they would initiate the refund. I called back 2 weeks later, the CS said this time that the refund had to be initiated within a week and they couldn't issue refund. I asked why they even charged me if I never activated my account. she didn't have an answer for that. terrible process, customer service, bad experience over all.

Thanks. Do you create one account for all lines on hello or one account per line ? Any relative advantage in doing one over the other ?

Needless to say most people will comments here if they had a bad experience, sure there are a few good ones. The best advice I can give you is if you really want to try and save some money with a cell phone plan get their cheapest plan for $5 or $10 per month and be prepared to loose the money if the service does not work for you. Do not put a real credit card on file as they will not let you delete it and it will auto signup for renew every month. Put a virtual credit card number that can be blocked after the initial charge. You can always change to different plan once you get it working. Also do not port a number to Hello Mobile as it is almost impossible to switch it to another provider. You can port you number after the service works and if you like it.

The SIM I ordered was delivered within 3 days and they kept sending me daily text messages to activate it. They did charge me the whole amount the day the SIM was shipped. When I tried the sim in my T Mobile phone and followed the process to reset an Android phone it never connected. CService said their was a problem with their code and to wait 24 - 48 hours before checking again. Remember to reset your network settings and power off each time before trying to connect. Follow the T-Mobile APN setup [t-mobile.com] and make sure it is selected and Manually or auto register on the T-Mobile network from the Mobile/Cellular network settings option. After 8 calls to CService they are still saying to wait 24 - 48 hours and it will start magically start working.

Good news, it did start working, I can call local and international unlimited and I can send and receive text messages, but the data does not work. You will notice the call and text working when you get a test text message from Hello Mobile or 5115 - My phone battery drains in about 2 hours as it is continuously trying to find a working provider for data. Normally the battery can last 2 days. The activate option ##72786# did not work, they suggest calling their main phone number 954 900 9620 which will in turn activate the account. Customer service did say that your account is activated once you make a call, this does not mean your service is activated, just that you have subscribed to their service and your billing starts as of that time. They explained to me that my service is now activated and I am subscribed for the last 15 days even though I made my first call on the 15th day as it did not work before that. The special they are offering now says 1 month free with the first month paid. it is my understanding that they are aware it takes a long time to get the service working, and with a free month you may stay on the plan once it works. They include 120 days of free SMS even after the plan expires.

So far it has been a total waste of time and Customer Service really does not have a problem with saying wait another 24 - 48 hours before it starts working. Best of luck to anyone trying to take advantage of this Hello Mobile plan. It must work for someone in some areas or they would be out of business. They have changed to hello mobile as the last rip off scheme did not work. Just to clarify their unlimited plan is 20 Gb a month, and then a extremely slow connection which unlimited. The slow connection is not usable but it keeps them from getting sued for lying about the unlimited plan. T-Mobile would not want competition from Hello Mobile who would ultimately destroy MetroPcs by T-Mobile so no wonder it barely works when and if it does work.

My experience was great. Ported from T-Mobile. Took 3-4 days to get the SIM shipment. Once I got the SIM, Port out was super quick like less than 10 mins. Data started working in 15 mins or so. No difference between my old T-Mobile data speeds and this (in 4g as I don't have a 5g phone)

The only trap was once they send a shipment notice they send out an auto email to immediately activate your line (port out). The email incorrectly says SIM will only be shipped after you activate. I waited a day to confirm shipment has started and did not do any porting initiations until I got the SIM. I read so many horror stories about people getting stuck for days in porting without SIM or network. Once I got the SIM, porting from their site and activation was quick and easy. Very happy so far. (They note on their site to not start any porting request with your old carrier beforehand)

I think T-Mobile SIM may be mainly based on location even though my phone is GSM phone used with T-Mobile SIM.

I'm hoping, like some others have reported, data doesn't stop working in future.
