Hello mobile review

I just want to share my review for hello mobile as a lot of people would be interested in it after current tello pay as you go issue.

1. I had a sprint sim card so i didn't have to wait for them to ship the sim card. A lot of people initially complaint that they never got the sim card but were being charged in the meantime. i wanted to check the service so i took new no. from them instead of porting my primary number.

2. i choose $5 plan and got 2 months as offer. services started great. it took less than 10-20 minutes for service to start including their "network reset" procedure.

3. I have better sprint network in my area than t-mobile. Mint mobile was pathetic in my area with pages barely loading. I didn't checked speed but it was good enough for browsing and youtube 1080p didn't buffered.

4. after trying for a week, making calls and using sprint's visual voicemail app (premium is free for 15 days which is at 2 or 3 $ per month, else ad supported is free), i thought to move my primary number to it.

Now comes the horror part. I placed order for a sim under "byod". Placing order was a nightmare. I have to try multiple times and it kept on looping on different pages. Maybe I was using the same IMEI which was already activated in their system (as I only have one sprint compatible phone). Somehow i was able to place order and i have no idea if i can reproduce it again as it was really confusing.

It's been 2 days since tracking number have been provided and UPS haven't yet received the package. Then I noticed on UPS site that it have been shipped to billing address instead of the location where I am using it. They took 2 address while sign up, billing and area of use. Both are different for me as I am temporary staying in another state.

So today, I chatted them and asked if they can reship the sim to new address. The chat support was too slow. they takes lot of time to respond. it took me 4-5 messages to convey the message i need sim at new address. else everytime the person was saying to contact them once i get package. and i was like, that sim will be delivered 500 miles away from my current location. after couple of back and forth messages, the CS placed a new order for sim at my new address.

From last 2-3 days i was not using that phone so i thought let's use it more frequent in the mean time the new sim arrives. so that i will get to know the service and decide if i want to port my primary number to hello mobile or not.

on inserting the sim again, whooaah. it's not working. tried network reset and still no luck. the CS asked me ICCID and told it doesn't match in their system and to call them for support. CS was useless.

i called phone support and they were not available 2 hrs before the working hours. that's when i decided, i am not taking my primary number to hello.

i asked two CS to provide me with port out info and they rejected it. i informed one that FCC doesnt give you that authority to which they said we cannot provide unless you give reason. DENIED ON MY FACE.

now comes funny story. i chatted again and said i want to port out, give me port out info. i told i am not having network and CS is useless. phone support was not available hours before their working hours. and then based on response i came to know that their changed the SIM card number. WTH. the new sim card which was for new line, they swapped my current line with that ICCID and hence i was not having network. This CS didn't accepted it have been changed but he said this is ICCID for your number and sim is in processing.

I am taking my number to another provider but not hello mobile. tello gives $10.7 for 1gb +unlimited call including tax whereas hello gave at $10 including international calling to the country where i call which is another $3 pm via google voice. i guess i'll check with tello instead of hello mobile.

and they never gave me port out info. LMAO

I have both T-Mobile and Sprint in my area. However Sprint service is very slow...so slow $3 a month was too much for the free BYOD plan. What I ended up doing was I found an old T-Mobile GSM phone and entered the IMEI for compatibility check. I know this phone does not work on SPrint's network. I ordered a SIM and Hello Mobile sent me the SIM in about 5 days. I activated it on the temporary number. Overall, the service works great and I assume it is on the T-Mobile network as it works on the GSM only phone and the speeds are far better than my ATT and Verizon lines. I have turned off auto-renewal and there is an option to bring in your phone number. I use Google Voice, so I don't plan to port my number over. HM charged me the day the SIM shipped, but my plan started the day I made my first call. Everything is very transparent. My daughter uses Google Voice and her carrier is with Tello. I plan to switch her to HM. Too bad HM does not have a PAYGO program as $10 per additional GB is too much.

Here's my experience.
I have an iPhone 11 unlocked previously on the Sprint network. I switched and ported in my pone number.
I put the SIM card in that they sent me and was able to connect to their network... the network shows "home" even when going into the settings to manually select which network to connect to, several "home" options appear. Now the carrier is "Home". Fine. I still have service.
The problem I have right now, is that MMS messaging does not work. I don't even have the option to turn MMS messaging on or off or the option for group messaging. Contacted them and performed NUMEROUS network resets. phone, SMS texts, short-number texts, and data works, but MMS is not supported. They told me to call Sprint because the phone might be locked. I called Sprint and was assured there are no holds, then I called Apple and they explained to me that MMS is a feature provided by the carrier. They offered me a case number and to contact Hello Mobile in case they can't resolve the issue.
I contacted HM and we went through the same thing again. Network reset, restart phone, the whole thing again. CS is joke and knowledgeable. Could not provide MMS settings after I asked.
Also, once they set up a ticket for tech support, you have to wait for them to call you.

I switched back to my old Sprint SIM and MMS messaging is support as now I can see the option to toggle it on or off and also group messaging. I have an andriod phone on Red Pocket I put the RP SIM into the iPhone, and the HM SIM into the android. MMS is working for BOTH phones!
For some reason, it is not working on the HM service just for the iPhone 11.

Did anybody else have to deal with this issue? This is a dealbreaker if this can't work!

Was it difficult to get the PIN to port OUT of HelloMobile? I was thinking of trying them for the 2 month period, but am concerned about porting out once I'm on their service.

I got it work finally. I didn't get anywhere chatting with them, but talking to their tech support did the trick. I was transferred twice and have to manually enter APN values.
I have no experience with porting OUT of Hello Mobile.

I'll add my experience on this old thread posting....I signed up for new number, $5 plan plus the one month free. Just to try before switching main number to their service. Was sent TMobile Sim, I did the activation process, everything worked find for a couple of weeks.
I've had the service less than a month (and haven't really used it in the last week), and last night tried sending text both to and from the number. Got "message blocked" errors both ways. Then tried making a phone call - any number I try to call connects me to their customer service, which initially says that my account was identified, gives me account balance, etc etc. Trying to call my hellomobile number from another cell results in no connection, immediately gets dropped.
I contacted customer service via their FB messaging as suggested to do on the website, give them all the account, sim card info etc. Now they say they will look into it and will get back to me within 48 (yes 48!) hours. LOL
So glad I did not port my main number to them.
Also if you install their APP on your phone, as recommended (or required?) to do, it basically hijacks your lock screen with something that displays ad supported news links. You have to go into the app and turn it off (ON by default). I don't think its required to have the app for the service to still work. When I first noticed it a few weeks ago I deleted the app and service still worked fine then.

I'm also thinking about porting my numbers from Metro to Hello Mobile, but I may switch to TMobile in the future for some of their promotions such as get a free line offer. My question is, is Hello Mobile a TMobile MVNO? If yes then I may not be able to port the Hello Mobile number to TMobile to quality for the special offer.

Also, did you port all 5 lines from Metro to Hello Mobile at the same time under the same account with Hello Mobile? or did you port the numbers one by one to different accounts?

Funny thing is that I have 2 Sprint model LG phones (LG G6 & V35) and Hello Mobile put one on T-Mobile and the other on Sprint. I know they're the same company now but they each work on different networks.

how do you know they are on two different networks? they sent you two different SIMs? Also can you choose which network to use your phone on when signing up for their service?

Yes they determine which sim and network you will use. You cannot switch between networks and can see which network is being used in settings.

On the unlimited plan, is the 4G/5G high speed data still limited to 15GB then 2G speed? I can't seem to find such info on their website.

Here is an update, I tried their service for 2 weeks and I can confirm their monthly high speed data is only about 15GB for the unlimited plan, after that you get data speed slower than 2G (basically useless). Since their website doesn't mention anything about the high speed data cap, I called their customer service before signing up and asked specifically whether there was a limit on their 4G/5G high speed data, and I was told NO by different reps and they promised me that I'd get true unlimited high speed data. Obviously that's not true after using their service for about 2 weeks, I've used around 15GB data and now my phone download speed is only 0.01 Mbps, that's slower than 1G! and their support told me either to wait until the next cycle or refill it by buying more high speed, what a joke! Their $25 so called unlimited plan is essentially the same as Mint Mobile's $25 15GB plan, but Mint Mobile is much more clear and straight forward with all the details about their service, and Mint has a better deal $30 for 35GB. so go with someone else and don't waste your time with this dishonest company.
