The Dyson AM09 Hot + Cool fan heater is effective all year round. Use as a powerful heater in winter and cooling fan in summer. The only fan heater with Jet Focus control, you can choose between focused mode for long-range powerful airflow, or diffused mode for wide projection. -slickdewmaster

I have an AM09 and I'm not happy with its power. The little Honeywell fans that go for $14 periodically on SD do a much better job. That said, I also have a couple TP04 units - the larger ones that do air purifying - and they do a great job. I wouldn't recommend the AM09. Note that I don't use it for heating so I can't really comment on that functionality.
EDIT: I had a chance to try the heating last night and it does a good job heating a bedroom (~250sq ft). The built in thermostat is nice when sleeping as it automatically keeps the room at a consistent temperature by shutting off and turning on as necessary. If you primarily need this for the heating functionality and don't need a powerful fan this could still be an option for you. It is rather cool looking, too :-)

Is this the best deal for the Dyson? I've read that refurbs for these go for pretty low but I'd imagine this is a pretty good price for a new right now.

Both heater and fans suck!!! Not worth the high price. I bought $40 Lasko heater from Costco and it's much better than this.
Wanted one of these Dyson fans since they came out, finally got one not too long ago and was crestfallen at how cheaply it was made. Cheap plastic junk is now my opinion of Dyson products and I won't hesitate to let people know.
There is a reason there are so many places selling refurbished Dyson gear ... and that is because it is plastic junk. Buyer be aware.
Purchased a refurbished version earlier this year. Just an FYI, if you expect these to cool down your home on a hot summer day it won't do the job well at all. Even at max speed 10 the fan isn't powerful yet it is very loud. Would be efficient in a small bedroom but even then I prefer my small Vornado.
But now that it's winter it has been an amazing device for keeping our bedrooms warm, the heater is very effective. At that price point however I would recommend the HP01 as it does the same thing, plus has an air purifier feature built in as well.
I got one of these refurbed off ebay for $160 or so a couple years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I only use it to heat a bedroom and it's great, of not a bit loud. It's very kid friendly and looks very nice . I wouldn't pay a penny more than what I spent though, even for a new one.
