I purchased a refurbished 7850R from Ebay in December from a Dealparade with 10% ebay bucks. I recalled seeing a warranty paper claiming 1 year warranty manufacture. Anyway it is a great receiver for the price, much better than the Onkyo NR686 I returned to Bestbuy after comparing the 2.

I have an old onkyo 7.1 or 7.2 receiver with wired speakers. I'm looking for a new receiver for the wireless and network capability. What do I need if I wanted to reused the old wired speakers but have the wireless capability? What's a good speaker sets up w/ wireless capability to pick up without draining my wallet?

I just started looking for receiver for recently bought klipsch 5.1 and possibility of adding .2 atmos. Was thinking between little higher Denon AVR-3500H at Amazon for $550 or this at Costco. Price dropped and now very tempted to pull the plug. Looks decent specs, will save me some $$ and I get Costco support. This has lesser hdmi input but rest looks comparative.
Anyone used this with Klipsch 5.1 and any feedback ?
I had this receiver. Just upgraded to Denon and will return this receiver to Costco. I think Denon has better room calibration and better sub output (for some reasons, this receiver has low sub output for me). I use them with Klipsch 5.1 and svs sub. Denon is better, at least for me.

Better room calibration is a silly reason to purchase a receiver. If you are serious about the audio buy a dB meter and do it yourself with better results anyway. I have never seen an automatic calibration come out great - passable mostly, but rarely are they accurate.

Has anyone seen this unit in a store? I was wondering if it is the same price.

A dB meter does nothing but match the levels to a test tone. Room calibration sets levels AND applies EQ and delay. Very different.

But in any case I found one in my store, and yes, for the same price. Well I found a dozen or so, actually, but I only took ONE home with me. Smilie

Still considering doing the same. I'm a long-time Denon buyer, going back 30+ years with receivers and CD players and 35 years with their cassette tapes, but to be honest I'm more than a little turned off that a receiver with a thousand-dollar MSRP doesn't even have a metal faceplate... Confused

You are much more likely to blow speakers or amps that are underpowered and being overdriven than you are to blow speakers or amps with higher-powered gear being pushed more moderately at equivalent sound levels. It's all about the distortion... and those distortion specs are horrific. Running gear at 10% distortion is an invitation to blown speakers or worse. But I think you're talking about a HTIB setup and the speakers aren't really meant for house parties. This Yamaha has more oomph but you would be well served to pony up for better speakers, too, if high-volume party music is your thing.

Thank you for the reply!! Realized going from a passive sub to a active will at minimum need an external mini box amp. Likely will try and invest in that and then eventually one of the fair-ish priced kilpsch sets floating on here for ~600-700. Don't need it to be perfect, just be load enough and sound decent. Thanks for the tips!

If anyone wants some really great speakers for a mid-level price, you need to check out Axiom. Axiomaudio.com

I have had a whole set of their speakers for over 10 years. Great stuff, save a ton buy buying b-stock from them. Many people, including myself, report receiving speakers and can't even find the supposed blemish.

I would also recommend paying in CA$ and using a credit card that doesn't charge foreign fees, you will save a little more that way because of the favorable us$-$cad exchange rate.

I originally bought the Onkyo NR686 from Bestbuy for $249. I had the Onkyo for almost a whole month. Then bought the refurbished Yamaha TSR-7850R for almost the same price as the Onkyo. I returned the Onkyo back to Bestbuy. To me, music and home theater sounded better with the Yamaha using my JBL Studio 530 speakers. The Yamaha has the usb port in front which is convenient for me since my receiver is back to the wall. The Onkyo usb port is in the back. The Yamaha has 2 front channel pre outs which I can hook them up to my 2 channels amp for 2 channel music listening. The Onkyo doesn't have any pre outs. Airplay never worked for me on the Onkyo even even though I hardwired it with ethernet cable. The only thing I dislike about the Yamaha is the remote is big and heavy.

About the same though less watts per channel. Still some people like how the Yamaha sounds better.
