Look at Windscribe, though. They sold lifetime as a promo for a few years, but have stopped, and now people wish they could still get in on that. Could be the same thing here. For $20, you may get years and years of a VPN service that some day people wish they could still get lifetime. Or it may go tits up in a few months. Up to you if any of it is worth it to you.
EDIT: Try promo code BFCM19 to make it $18. ENJOY15 was supposed to take 15% off, making it $17, but I couldn't get it to work.

I got PIA 2 years and 3 months for almost 70.00 is PIA that much better?
Others are not premium and may not have the best servers or VPN protection. (i.e. kill switch)
If all VPN were the same you would not have so many sites with VPN leak test sites like DNSLEAKTEST.
It is just a matter of how important your privacy is assuming your VPN fails and your ISP can see what sites you are looking at. What you are downloading. What you are uploading. What sites you are looking at...political, etc. If you feel your ISP or another site has the right to see what you are doing on the internet, then you dont need a VPN.
I am a privacy advocate not meant to do wrong things. I get jury duty since they use DMV database. I get calls to work on my house since they have access to property records which is public. Enough.
"A string of "zero logging" VPN providers have some explaining to do after more than a terabyte of user logs were found on their servers unprotected and facing the public internet."...

If you are willing to gamble your privacy on a $20 lifeteime VPN or worse yet, a free VPN, you clearly don't value your privacy.
In this area above all others, you get what you pay for. You decide what your privacy is worth to you.

I also check the connection at https://ipleak.net/ before using the connection. Only one time did I find it leaking DNS info. I switched to a different country and it was fine.

2.40 a month is nothing really for the best service
A few posts in this thread have provided some good tools to start with. We can't hold your hand every step of the way.
