Alert: Crazy experience with Total Wireless defrauding me

139 49 February 19, 2020 at 02:41 PM
A few months back, a deal was posted here for the refurb iPhone 6S from total wireless with a service plan. Since we use the service, I purchased 13 iPhones and plans together in order to use the plans and trade in the iPhones for Apple gift cards. All worked! until......

I added those 13 cards to my account as "reserve" cards which Total Wireless pulls from each month to refill your account. Well, after the first month, our service shut down! ok, odd, so I logged in and checked my account. The account was closed and ALL service cards were gone.

Reaching out to Total Wireless was useless, as they had no record of the purchases or the cards added to the account. Tried Tracfone corporate with no luck still. At the end, I went to Chase to report fraud which still turned up nothing.

The lesson, keep your service cards if you add them to Total Wireless in reserve. OR, better, don't deal with them as there system and staff are useless.

Oh man, that's a bummer! I don't have total wireless but I do take screenshots when I add service refill cards to my prepaid cellular account.

I wonder if the fine print in the terms of service or sale agreement said something about this kind of situation.

I don't know for sure as I didn't go for any of these deals that i had seen. But it may have been since the phone was a package deal with a month of service, that you had to activate the service within 30 days. Therefore maybe it's not the same as buying total wireless monthly sevice cards?

My phone refill cards are only good 90 days after you enter the number.
Maybe there was some small print you weren't aware of.
Good Luck!

Most places usually do. There's almost always some sort of verbiage banning bulk/reseller quantity orders. You order one or two and you'll be fine usually but doing what the OP did (buying 13) and expecting to fly under the radar is not likely to happen.

They probably even have other terms stating they can cancel any accounts and anything that was a benefit of those accounts (the gift cards here) would be forfeit.

This makes the most sense.Probably thought the OP was a re seller...which he kind of is. 13 iphones?
Ever see that Lucy show where she learns she can get double her money back if she says she does not like some baked beans she bought? She ends up buying a whole house full , cases crammed stacked to the ceiling, with the intent to return them and score big. The president of the company learns of her, gets her to try them, and she ends up loving them...... shit i'm old.

The really strange thing is Total Wireless having no records of my purchases or the cards added to the account. The terms are 6 phone orders per person, thus my wife bought 6, I bought 6 and her parents bought a couple to replace their old iPhones. The terms and conditions were met on the front.

I will keep up with reporting fraud on the charges, since they clearly have no proof that I ever even purchased anything from them.

I actually would like to try to do a test and see if it would happen again, with documentation to see if they truly are defrauding people. I have posted on a few places, maybe there is a class, but that would be rare.

The problem is you went right to the limit and then had your wife (same address) buy six as well. I went to the limit on game trade-ins with Best Buy's trade program back in the day quite often, never even going over by one on a single title. Yet I still received a one year ban on trading anything. Why? Because I did three of each (their limit) of multiple titles in a few massive trade-ins.

Same applies here. Just because you CAN order X or Y of an item per their limits/rules doesn't mean they will want to continue doing business with you.
