Anyone have this and have an opinion on it? I have the RU7100 and its a nice bedroom TV. I think this TV adds a wide color gamut, and a voice remote.

I have this tv and am very impressed with it. Makes a great bedroom tv and at this price, a very good buy. I prefer the tv stand on this one and I also think the small remote is great which is perfect for the bedroom with the quick launch buttons for netflix and hulu. I paid a little more back in November but overall, awesome tv.

I have the 7100 and love the picture quality and upscaling. We just bought this 740 model 65 inch from Costco for 549 for our parents. They had a ks8000 sammy that died, and like the pq on this model better. They are elderly, so take that fwiw.

How does it look, compared to the 7100? I think it's essentially the same TV.

The color seems to be a little better on this 740 model. The base is sturdy, so if you don't want to wall mount then ur good. This also has voice remote

Does 120 motion rate mean the refresh rate is actually 60? (I don't mean to start a refresh/motion rate barrage here)

Yes, native 60hz.

Makes sense, because this one has the dynamic crystal color aka wider color gamut.

I do most of my tv viewing in the dark. How does this tv perform in a blacked out or nearly blacked out room? I usually have to turn the brightness down on my TVs, too, since I'm light sensitive.

I just bought the 65" version from Costco. It was to replace a 49" 2016 KS8000. I am returning it. I use the internal apps only (Prime, Youtube TV, Disney+, etc.). The reasons for return:
1. Border of TV is an ugly grey
2. HDR is very washed out compared to the SDR version of same content.
3. Up-scaling is noticeably worse than the ks8000. I also have a 75" q90r and it looks better than the 49" ks8000, so size difference is not the factor here.
4. non existent black bars. I was expecting mediocre but got worse. The glow on the bottom black bar from the bottom LED row on any movie was really bad. On shows from Netflix with those small black bars the bottom LED actually washed out the bottom portion of the content.
5. Global dimming was more distracting during movies than i thought it would be.

I have a 55" TCL 6 series in a bedroom and recommend that which is $399 at Costco currently. Way better TV in every aspect. I would of bought the 65" TCL version from Costco but they are currently sold out. I am going to wait until they are back in stock and order that.

what you mean by perform? If you refer black levels i had to return my 8000 series since the tv was not good in dark room conditions which is expected out of edge lit. This tv being a step down from 8 series, don't expect great contrast.

I think you hit on what I meant...how good the picture looks in a dark room. When I see people comment that a screen isn't bright enough for their liking, that doesn't bother me one bit, cuz I'm the person with their phone brightness set to 0% and their monitor brightness set to 10%. laugh out loud But if everything on the screen washes together so badly that I can't tell what's going on when I turn the brightness down in a dark room, that's not going to work for me.
