Bought it last weekend, turned out to be a bad TV on the functioning side.

Cons:
Turns on automatically after it being left turned off (especially at night).
YouTube app doesn't work even when connected through Ethernet (shows a black screen when accessing the app and its unresponsive)
WiFi tends to cut on and off (tested with built-in streaming apps, however the issue stops when using an Ethernet connection)
When words or colors are illuminated it leaves sort of a noticeable white glow around it (first time owning a VA panel so not sure if this is normal or just my unit)

Pros:
This TV has a good VA panel. The colors pop (with literally little to no calibration) and the colors are accurate. The blacks are nice and family thinks it looks fantastic when watching at night. Verified 60hz 4K and tested this using PS4 Pro and an Nvidia Shield.

We decided to return it, it's not functioning across the board and we went with a Samsung instead. I can see why it would be on sale. Then again it could just be my unit, however I did see articles on Vizio's website pertaining to the TV turning on automatically when left unused and certain built-in apps like YouTube not working so they appear to be common issues.
Did you by chance see if this behavior was occurring with the TV not connected to the network? I am curious if the TV was performing some update in the background which was causing it to reboot, or if there was some Wake-on-LAN (WOL) packets being sent by another device on your network.
Bought this during BF sale for 599 but then had to return it due to light bleed at the bottom right corner. While I had the TV it was great for 4K content but upscaling was poor when using Vizio native Smartcast. If you are going to use an Apple TV or Firestick it should be fine but it could be annoying as you have to switch inputs after turning on the TV. Great TV for the new price and can even get 3 additional years of warranty for $35 at Costco.

Do you get extra warranty for this TV if buying from Costco?
Yes, Costco automatically extends the warranty to two years and if you use Costco Visa, you get another two years for a total of 4 Years. I did that and also bought Square Trade for 3 Years. So a total of 7 years warranty which might be an overkill...

I bought this TV from Costco about 3 weeks ago for $699 with a 4 year warranty using the Costco Visa. I just got $200 price adjustment with this new price.

As a TV, it has an amazing picture. HDR is excellent and just enough brightness in that mode to look good. Very happy with my purchase.

As a smart TV, it has some issues. It does stop streaming and loses wifi at times and the interface is prone to freezing up.

That said, I already had a 4K ROKU, and use that most of the time. The ROKU interface is far superior anyway.

From AVSforum. TCL and Vizio with have some form of DSE. The 710 is not a good choice when the 740D which was on sale uses the panel technology of the 8000. However the 7 series is DSE free.

The TCL will have more DSE than the Vizio and it has a Glossy Screen but it will have better blacks and better scaling than the Vizio

The Vizio will have less DSE and non glossy screen but will have poor scaling. Also the TV will turn on and off at times depending upon the set you get.

Which one would I choose..I take the Vizio and hook up a roku to do the scaling. Too much panel lottery with TCL because the screen is fragile (more crack screens).

In either case...only buy at Costco...you have 90 days to return. I know...I returned and dragged back a 65 inch tv due to DSE...it was so much fun repacking...and dragging it back. Best buy you dont have to ever worry about returns since you only have 14 days..

From AVSforums..pretty consistent.

Hi everyone, I purchased a new Vizio M658-g1 and I'm loving the picture. Two issues though...

1) DSE on fast moving pictures, I can see the local dimming vertical lines. Dim, but noticeable. Is this a per unit issue or do they all have this?

2) I have woken up or come home to the tv being on, nothing playing and it looks like it does not care for the automatic shut off timer that is set. Anybody else having this issue? Or does anyone have a solution to this?

I do see a little of that on my TV. It's not noticeable in most content though but it's there. But considering it's a 65" set and the quality is as good as it is, and considering its price point... I'm plenty happ

That is a great decision..No way a Vizio will last 7 years....the TV will break ...you get your money back...and for the same money you get a start of the art microled TV. Your new TV will be free for you.

Then you do the same thing again....add the warranty...and you have a new free TV for the rest of your life....genius

Just submitted a price match on this. Thanks OP.

At $500 this is a great TV. My room is dark, so brightness is fine. HDR could be brighter, but it's fine. 90 dimming zones isnt the best, but as long as it isn't a highly contrasting scene the black detail is really good.

I did have the phantom turning on, but disabling CEC seems to have solved that. I use a 4k fire stick so no real comments on the OS.

THis or the 2018 TCL 65R13? My costco has both in stock for $499. My main dilemma is the Vizio is only 600 nit compared to almost 1000 for TCL? I heard you need more brightness for good HDR display?

My Vizio M65-C1 bought at Costco broke just right after warranty expired. I was told by rep by that time Vizio is the only American TV manufacturer !!

Outstanding television, especially for the price. I saw the list of cons and have had none of the issues listed. YouTube works well from the tv itself and seemlessly connects to my devices for casting. Has never turned itself on or off. Not saying that hasn't happened for anyone but never for me with the tv in use for about 6 months. Check ratings.com for review. I'm tempted to buy another at this price and with Costco warranty

Crazy good deal, I got this tv over Black Friday for $600 with a $200 dell gift card. Also had an Amex offer and cb 10% site. But I'd trade those for a Costco warranty in a heartbeat.
