I think all of this is covered in the thread, but to summarize:
  • These require a Zigbee hub. This includes but is not limited to: Hubitat, SmartThings, and Echo Plus devices. The Lightify/Smart+ hub isn't required but I recommend having one to update the firmware as much as possible before connecting to your smart home hub. Smart+ servers will be shut down next year, at which point you will need a different hub.
  • You can cut them, but they have a significant coating that makes them waterproof and harder to work with multiple pieces because you'll have to remove the coating at each cut point if you want to use the cut pieces. Cutting them without properly resealing them would also mean no more waterproof. I personally would not let the length deter you as they can be shortened (and easily resealed on the tip that you cut), but I wouldn't get this with the intention of using the cut pieces, albeit doable.

And? Is this not a good price? Asking a real question.

Can you string multiple units together with these lights for a longer run?

Just bringing that to people's attention. Not saying it's a bad deal. At least on the app, walmart doesn't have much information on its 3rd party sellers so figured I'd mention that.

Looks like these lights might lose functionality in 15 months:

"Dear LIGHTIFY User,

Unfortunately, we have to share some bad news with you today. After five years of service, we have taken the tough decision to shut-off the LIGHTFY cloud servers on August 31st, 2021.

What you need to know now:

You still have plenty of time to react. The LIGHTIFY cloud servers will be available until August 31st, 2021. Only after this date the LIGHTIFY service and support will be discontinued.

This means, that there will be no further updates and a connection to the Amazon and Google voice assistants will not be possible anymore after this date. Compatibility to newer versions of the iOS and Android operating systems can't also be assured thereafter. However, until then you can use your LIGHTIFY system without limitations.

As the LIGHTIFY System is a cloud-based system, the majority of functions will unfortunately be lost and LIGHTIFY app control will be only very limited. Here you can find an overview of all affected functions."

Good to know but I think this will have no impact on folks who use Wink, Hubitat or other ZigBee Hubs. Osram's LIGHTIFY Hub had a lot of issues anyway. I never implemented it and used their bulbs with Wink (now Hubitat) instead right from the start.

So we don't need the Sylvania hub at all if we have a smart things hub?

Correct, if it has zigbee it should be able to control them. I have other lights by them that are controlled by smartthings with no issues and will not be affected by the shutdown.

Correct, just use the SmartThings hub and don't need to worry.
