I needed some RAM for a build I was working on and found this G.SKILL Ripjaws V currently on a good sale. I looked around at current prices and this seemed pretty decent for 2 x 8GB kit at DDR4 - 3200 speed.

DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
Timing 16-18-18-38
CAS Latency 16
Voltage 1.35V

Very interesting article, I was planning to test and bench this RAM in my system to see what the difference would be. I would bench this Ripjaws V against Team T Force DDR4 3000 RAM that is currently installed in the system. Based on the conclusion of the article you provided, I may not see any real-world difference or increase in gaming FPS.

You'd have to jump up to some high-end ram like Samsung B-die to see a marked difference in performance measurements. For most plebian systems mere mortals are running, high-end ram money is better spent on a better video card or processor.

Happened to be in the market for some RAM and this is the same price I was about to pay for some lower quality stuff. Thanks OP!

I almost bought 1 of these earlier this week. I've been going back n forth between corsair and g-skill. I finally bit on trident neo rgb samsung b-die at today's Newegg email. It'll be paired with 3700x.

Just got some Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz cl16 off of Amazon for $74. Is this a better deal/better memory? I am familiar with crucial products, not with GSkill. This will be going with a R5 3600 on a x470 board.

Can you share your findings for reasonable pairing for 3700x? I have a old kit of Crucial 3000 at 17-19-19-38. Is it going to bottleneck by much? Thank you!

Crucial has easier RMA if you ever need it.

The heatsink on G.Skill Ripjaws DIMMs are unnecessary and cause problems for for builds with mid-tower or compact cases. I've had situations where I couldn't use them because they'd get in the way of GPUs or HDD bays.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy them because of this.

Assuming you're taking about gaming where your bottleneck lies is determined by a lot of factors, especially what games you plan to play and at what settings. If you're driving a 4k display with graphically intensive settings, ram speed is not going to make a huge difference. If you're trying to drive a high refresh rate (144hz+) monitor or VR headset though, it could make a meaningful difference, but likely single digit percentages coming from your current RAM.

I wish more people realized this instead of chasing synthetic benchmark numbers.

TU OP.
