I just wanted to correct your answer above so "government employees" don't think they are automatically eligible to shop at AAFES. We get enough whining in the AAFES threads already.

You may have been given shopping privileges because the local commander determined for whatever reason it was appropriate to do so.
"Non-DoD Federal Departments/Agencies as determined by local commanding officer."

As a simple rule though, non-military government employees are not eligible for AAFES.

AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) was set up by Congress for the military (with very rare exceptions for civilians serving with the military). It is not a store for government employees. It is an earned military benefit. That is why for example laws applying to AAFES are in the defense authorization bill and not general government spending bills.
Not correct.

Authorized Exchange patrons:

Unlimited Privileges

Active Duty or Reserve Uniformed and Retired Uniformed personnel.
Recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Honorably Discharged Veterans when certified 100% disabled.
Military Members of Foreign Nations when on duty with U.S. Military Service.
National Guard not in Federal Service.
Red Cross Personnel who are U.S. citizens, assigned outside the U.S. with the Military Service.
U.S. Civilian DoD Employees when stationed outside the U.S.
U.S. Citizen Employees of Firms under contract to the Department of Defense when employed outside the U.S.
Military Transition Personnel.
Retired Ship's Officers and Crew members of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, NOAA.
Ship's Officers and Crew members of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, NOAA.
Dependent family members of personnel listed above.
Contract Surgeons.
Non-DoD Federal Departments/Agencies as determined by local commanding officer.
Dependents of members of the armed forces, commissioned officers of the Public Health Service or commissioned officers of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association who have been separated for dependent abuse.

There are more people who have "limited privileges" but they are very limited and do not have access to deals like this.

Can somebody fill us in on price history and expected lowest prices of the season? I want to add a couple of One SLs to my Living Room but am willing to wait for the best price of the year.

This is a very good price. Last time they went on sale, these were the prices. With the PX you have the added benefit of no tax, which ultimately makes the price lower.

About the only potential better price you'll find is if you get a 30% off coupon (without paying).

I'd be surprised if you saw a lower price including tax this year. If you do, maybe a couple bucks? It sure won't be significant.

FYI - the group of eligible patrons also includes government civilians among a few others that aren't vets or active duty. Try to create an account and you can get 10% off your first purchase and never pay tax. Not too shabby.

Do civilian government have to live on base? Is this the group: "U.S. Government Civilian Employees and Full-time Paid Staff of the Red Cross who reside on military installations within the U.S. or Puerto Rico.*"?

No. Any civilian employee of Fed govt is eligible, I believe. DEA, FBI, and families.
