You probably experienced something similar to me... my fire pot had too many pellets and the grill got too hot with the HER code. After restarting and trying to burn through the old pellets, I noticed a lot of smoke coming out of my hopper. Eventually the pellets stuck in the auger dropped to the pit and the hopper stopped smoking.

When you were running it for 4 hours what temp setting did you have it on. Did you get any error codes when it shut off?
I had it at 225, right at about the 4 hr mark it dropped but the smoker was still on and the auger still moving. The pit was full of pellets. I shouldve removed them before restarting it. It smoked for a while and i think burned out of control for 20 minutes after i turned it off. I cleaned it an hr later and things were still pretty hot. Hope it didn't screw anything up. I vacuumed it and restarted and things appear to be ok. Does it automatically tirn off after 4 hrs? No HER or ERR code.

Hmm... maybe the pellets just got stuck in the pit. From what I've read, it should not auto turn off after 4 hours, some recopies call for longer cook times.

But the pit being full of pellets and a lot of smoke coming out of the hopper/ burning out of control seems to be similar to what I experience... Only mine was at high heat (after priming auger and starting the initial seasoning)

Did you prime the auger before grilling on it for the first time?

Yes i did. I think mu rod was turned off for some reason. Pellets stopped burning causing it to overfill. I hope the second bbq this weekend turned out better. I really like to set it and forget it. But i'd be weary of bbq when im
not at home. I dont trust it enough to do it. We experienced the exact same thing. Maybe i shut it down before it threw an error sign.
