Before I got my Traeger, I used to smoke on a gas grill. I used the ikea smoker box and wood chips. The reason is because it was 100% the fruit wood. These Bear Mountain (and many other pellets) are a mix of hardwoods even if it just says a single flavor. Like for Hickory, it's a mix of Hickory and either Oak or Alder. They do this because (1) it's cheaper to produce and (2) the pellets provide both the smoke flavor and the heat in a pellet smoker. Since you heat with gas, I would not recommend these pellets for that. You'll get more smoke flavor from chips or 100% fruitwood pellets.

Smart Foodservice in Oregon has them for $10.35 per 20lb and Coastal is $9.99. Little extra savings and variety with this deal if you don't need them right away.
Winco has it for 8.99 in Oregon too.

Pit Boss are great, auto feeds pellets from the hopper. I have the 820 Pro but its pricy. Here are couple lower cost barrel styles..

https://www.amazon.com/Pit-Boss-7...01GFX0104/

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pit-Bo.../160692525

Pit Boss also make vertical smokers, I never used them.. Do your research. Check previous clearance prices listed on SD.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the recommendation.

Got 2 bags. Too bad the coupon only discounts 1 bag, I was going to go nuts.
I ended up placing multiple orders. Had to change up email addresses/credit cards to make the coupon work.

I know this is a naive question, but I'm new to smoking and I do NOT have a pellet smoker, I have a gas standing smoker that has a tray at the bottom for bits of wood and/or charcoal, could I put pellets in the bottom basket? Or would they not properly smoke since it's not a pellet smoker with that focused heat on the pellet?
Depends on the basket. If it does not have holes the pellets can fall through you are likely fine.

Get a tray or a tube. Better yet do a mailbox mod on it (also have a mes)
Thay is my set up as well. Love how it is set and forget. Have a goodwill purchased alluminum roasting pan instead of a mailbox because amazon kept sending galvanized steel (bad for cooking). For the smoke tray, highly recommend one from here https://amazenproducts.com/

The product page makes no mention of oak or alder, are you sure this brand uses fillers? The website claims 100%, and no fillers. If they use filler like oak and alder i would not recommend this priduct. At least if you are using them in smoker tray. Can anyone confirm?

EDIT: product FAQ confirms they all use oak and alder as a base https://bearmountainbbq.com/pages/faqs. May not be good for MES AMNPS

Is this 100% of the wood named on the bag or a mix?
They say "100% natural hardwood" on the bag, which pretty much means they are not 100% the wood named on the bag like Lumberjack and CookinPellets. I would stick with those.

Good deal.

I literally just bought a bag for $18 from Amazon for a smoke this weekend. Ordered 2 more!
They seem more expensive than what I get for $8 at Rural King... I didn't notice any difference when I used more expensive woods. Do you notice something?

Pit Boss hickory is very strong, cooked a brisket last weekend. Lots of dust. How do these others compare?
There is less dust

Yes you can however I've tried pellets in mine and I've found that wood chips seem to burn more evenly and impart a better smoky flavor.

Unless you live in a bad area, I think a bag of wood sitting on your front door step should be fine. Plus it probably wont even get delivered cause of the Holiday till Thursday/Friday. Can always call the carrier whos delivering and ask them to put the bags at the side of the house or some other location too.
Have you ever tried smoking a brisket on a pellet grill with a bag of pellets that has sat outside or in a humid garage? Based on your answer, I guess no. His reasoning is actually intelligent for asking the question, and it's not always a porch pirate to worry about.
