The Costco Sonicare 5000 has 2 brush settings, while the 5100 has 3 settings and the 4100 has 1 setting. It comes with a travel case for each handle, like the 5100, which is not included for the 4100. It also has one extra brush included (3 total brushes included for 2 handles). The Costco 5000 is currently clearance priced at $79.97. It was on sale in March this year for $69.99 when it was $30 off the list price of $99.99. I purchased it on sale at that time.

So to summarize, right now for the Costco 5000, you get 1 brush head extra plus two travel cases for $10 more, compared to buying 2 4100s. You also get two brush settings instead of 1. I don't find 2 settings necessary - I just use "clean" all the time. Sometimes on the 5000 I also find myself accidentally changing the cleaning setting instead of turning on and off the brush because there are 2 buttons instead of 1 button on the 4100.

Doesnt hurt to have an extra in case the other one goes bad or something.

Got 2 from Target $70.00 out the door. $10 saved plus another 5% using my red card. I have an old white sonic are with dual buttons still going strong after 7 years but hate how it's turning yellow. Got 2 black colored ones.

Want to add that my old one has the button to change cleaning type. Never use it and even when I did, all felt the same.

Does anyone know if the Costco one really has two handles of the same color? Some reviews imply this but not sure. That would be silly considering most people will buy it for themselves and a significant other. Thanks
They're both white. Other sets have multi-color

Yes, they're both white (at least in the package I purchased) had to put a little sharpie dot on one to differentiate. No biggie IMHO

Says right on Amazon's website the 4100 uses li-ion batteries.
That's weird. I guess they've updated then. I had one die on me like 2 years ago and I cracked it open, found a NiMH battery pack inside.

Good brush with a few off-brand heads on amazon. I've had mine for north of a year now. Takes a while to charge, but that's fair for its endurance.

I got in on the $70 2-pack Costco deal in March for the 5000's for the wife and me, but I also own 3 4000-series units for my kids. The extra modes are useless. I would say the 5000 build quality feels a little sturdier, but my understanding is that the biggest, MOST IMPORTANT difference is that 4000-series toothbrushes use NiMH batteries while the 5000s use Li-ion. That means the 5000 will last a great deal longer in terms of recharge cycles.
This is not true. Just plain battery science and nothing to do with Sonicare in particular.
Li-ion only excel in being capable of faster charge/dis-charge over NiMh.
Li-ion is more prone to damage due to temperate extremes and being kept at either near-full or near-empty charge.
Temp probably not issue with toothbrush. But if you normally just put the brush back into the charger after each use ... this will keep the battery at full/near-full charge all the time. This is bad for Li-Ion which likes to be kept at ~3.8V/cell for the longest life (~55-60% charge).

You usually gets a little more cycles out of NiMh than Li-ion too. But keeping it near full charge all the time kills every Li-ion faster compared to NiMh.

Personally I have 2 Essence and 2 Series-2 brush in use in the house. All 4 are NiMh. The Essence going on about 6 years now. 2+ years on the Series 2. All still going strong.
Previous set of 2 pack NiCd Sonicare Elite lasted 11 years. Those Elite had the best Japan Sanyo NiCd cell ever made. You won't find those quality NiCd cell easy now. (Yes I did took them apart and replaced the battery).

Just picked up my 2 target Sonicares I ordered. Very nice! Comes with charger, brush and handle. The only thing that saddens me from my previous brush is the charger has a base that let me wind the cord inside. This new one is just the small charger, no base cover.

Your previous charger is for a Ni-Mh Sonicare brush (eg. the Essence)??
If yes => it will work for all Ni-Mh/Li-ion Sonicare brush as long as you can fit the brush on the charge base.
I am using my Essence charge base for my Series-2 (Ni-Mh) and Airfloss (Li-ion). Works the same. The Series-2 and Airfloss came with the exact same charge base (down to the part number). FYI.
In fact the old Essence charge base with openings on both sides are the best Sonicare universal charge base. As I think all the newer brush with the single-hole charge-mount will fit on it, including the airfloss.

Not sure. It's the one in this link https://moo.review/wp-content/upl...-stand.jpg

Problem is, it's white. Was hoping to find a black one but they don't seem to exist.

That pic is your NEW brush's charge-base, correct?? (without the coil storage you wanted)

I meant to tell you if you have this type of charge-base below that is for older Ni-Mh Sonicare brush (eg. Essence series) it will work for your new brush:
https://www.amazon.com/Toothbrush...B017DPT5V4

It will hold your new brush and lay flat and charge fine.
DO NOT use the charge-base from an old Elite Series (Ni-Cd battery model).

Seriously? I can't tell if you're joking or not. I know they make them specifically for kids but is there any reason kids couldn't use this one?

Anyone care to weigh on on brush heads? Generic? Brand? Best price? Honestly that's been the biggest hurdle in switching to an electric toothbrush. The heads are so expensive compared to a regular tooth brush. With how much they cost they should be giving the handles away for free.

Been using generic for diamond clean forever. Not a big difference at all. Huge savings.
