But this is actually a well known name brand rather than most of the generic/knockoff garbage that gets pushed on SD

I use the thermapen in the kitchen and it's top notch.
Edit: Indeed, the code came but it's useless.

I mean, I need to pay for shipping, coupon doesn't stack with discounted price, cheaper ones cost up to 75% less! The craziness!
I've been looking for a no-touch thermometer and waffling over a few that were even around $50 to get a reasonably good one but even those were suspect in reliability.
I agree this is one of those times where you get what you pay for and heck with my deal philosophies, suck it up, pay more and buy a reliable one.
