It's not that crap. Not everyone needs OLED. For a good brand at this size and with Costco warranty, this is very good deal.
Love this TV! Native 120hz, VA Panel, Direct-lit but without Local Dimming, good natural color, great panel uniformity, low input lag, solid HDR performance (only 500-600 nits though) Highly recommended at this price.
This for sure

I found this for settings and calibration

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...g/settings

Disregard The video on top says X900F but says same
Settings for 850g
These calibration settings weren't much different than the default "custom" settings. I found the standard setting way too bright.

FYI to everyone asking about blooming. I tried to watch some darker movies and didn't see any blooming. Maybe I don't have an eye for it.

I think the TV looks great.(I am coming from a 65" plasma) so it's going to be brighter in my eyes.

The legs on the newer sonys are outrageous i just got a 75 inch 950g as a replacement for my 75 inch 940e which had center stand and the legs hang like an inch over the the entertainment console.
Yeah I agree. Got the tv yesterday and the legs stick over the edge of my tv cabinet by 1/2". It's pretty unstable. Going to have to mount it or buy that vivo stand that others have mentioned.

Thanks, I looked at those settings. There not specific to the 85". I have an oled C8 and 4K projector. The 850G looks great to me before calibration. I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about. I think this TV would be fantastic for 90% of the people out there and an incredible deal at $1400.

I had read some one suggest turning HDR off
I am finding turning it on to help picture quality , especially in day bright light

added video to show HDR vs HLG vs off

https://reflectandrespond.com/tes...0g-series/

Was checking what is HLG:
Currently, there are five different varieties of HDR: HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision and Advanced HDR by Technicolor. HDR10 is the original and currently most common form of HDR.

HDR10 aims to produce 1000 nits of peak brightness, whereas HDR 10+ supports up to 4000 nits. In addition, both the standards support 10 bit colour depth, which is approximately 1024 shades of primary colours. HDR10 and HDR10+ are two most popular standards, shipped in mid-high end TVs.

Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) is a backwards-compatible high dynamic range (HDR) standard that was jointly developed by the BBC and NHK. ... HLG is supported by HDMI 2.0b, HEVC, VP9, and H. 264/MPEG-4 AVC, and is used by video services such as BBC iPlayer, DirecTV, Freeview Play, and YouTube

Agree I am not seeing any blooming
TV is quite bright and blacks are decent
My issue is window that shows on right side of TV. - see photo
in last 2 videos on

I will likely move to different wall or put a curtain. or plan to watch more during evenings, nights.

For anyone still debating to get this TV or not, here is my take:

1. If you have additional 1-3k to spend or money is not factor : go get the best like OLED, 900/950, Q8/9
2. If you all ready have other better TV's and need additional for size, dont want to wait - go get this one.

3. If you can wait and are ok spend $500 more then maybe at blackfriday can find other deals

I am not regretting having this in basement. Its a good price/value. For me i have a 55 OLED, I have a Q8-75

We all like good deals and this choice comes to you have more to spend so do so, if you dont or dont want to, this model is pretty good.

Right now I have not modified much

Auto works example for Sling -CNN best
HDR for YouTube movies
HLR for some of movies and YouTube etc

Just curious if anyone who saw that the new TCL 6 series came out with next generation specs today. I know is 10 inches smaller. But it's the same price as this and with the next Gen specs, anyone considering returning this 850G and getting the TCL. Mines is the shipping mode from Costco right now.

Here's my experience: same warranty from Costco.....
Dimming zone burned out on my 70 inch Vizio P series. Sent in some photos, they said yep it's borked.
Emailed me an offer of 70 inch E series. I said no, mine is FALD the E series isn't.
They came back with a 75" Samsung offer. I said no, that's edge lit.
Then they said "how about a full refund check and you keep the TV?"
And I said ok.
Costco additional year warranty is good, but Costco-Citi card warranty (for year 3 and 4) is the worst. I bought a basic laptop with Citi card from Costco, exactly after 2 years, it stopped working, tried all the known solutions available, nothing worked, Filled Citi warranty form, sent to them. They called me and asked to get the repair estimate from the authorized dealer or from the manufacturer. I went to dealer, they mentioned it will cost $150 for diagnose the problem and to give repair estimate for a $500 laptop. Citi said they will not cover the $150 dollar estimate, so what is point of spending $150 on a used laptop which Citi may or may not cover for repairs. When Costco had AMEX as partner, they covered everything for my TV repair.
Citi cards additional two year warranty is 'smoke and mirrors'. I had bad experience, probably others might had good experience with them.

Having the same exact problem. When you take out the batteries and put them back in, it works for 1 click and then is not responsive. However power button works the whole time. What the? Frustrating.

At least you guys got a remote! After unboxing this beast and setting it on my AV stand, i couldn't find the remote. I'm also missing the manual. I think they both fell out at some point during shipping. I thought it was odd the box was not sealed tightly when the delivery guys dropped it off.. the tape on top did not form a tight seal.
Can someone tell me if there are anything else that comes with the TV other than remote and manual?
I can't do much with the TV as the buttons on the TV only control (power/volume). Can't get past the set language screen. Have to say the blacks are look good to me though laugh out loud

Did you check the foam on top of the TV, which usually gets stuck in the top of the box? When i received the TV, the tape on top did not form a tight seal but everything was in there, nothing was missing.
