Lowe's has instant rebates of up to $1000 in SoCal for various tankless gas water heaters. The rebate applies instantly, but appears to vary by store.

This should technically only work for SoCal Gas customers, but some people in the other thread have had success buying from the Torrance store at the discounted price. If you don't see posted prices, change your local store.

Only if it is an indoor one, outdoor require no expensive venting.
Can you explain difference ? If you have a gas indooor unit has a tanked sytem that is vented can you use that vent that in place now??.

Also since my tanked gas unit is in my garage near wall(little builder alcove area that is against and exterior wall) currently should we go with an indoor or an outdoor Unit?

I am asking only if the current tank gas vent will not work on this AO SMith Tankless gas unit?

Asking for techs or actual current former HVAC installers to answer this question

Wouldn't recommend unless you're a professional. As a professional, I'd also steer clear of these. They are a hassle. You have to maintain them at least once a year and if you've never had tankless, the initial install is very expensive. Thousands of dollars. Includes drilling a large hole to the exterior of your home for ventilation.
I already have a vent hole from my gas 50 Gal tank hot water heater & a gas line close.
I'm willing to give it a shot

depends on the vent you have now. if it is a traditional metal water heater vent going through the roof no it won't work. if you have a PVC vent the answer is maybe depending on the size of tube, number of elbows, and length. read the instruction manual it gives all venting tubing requirements.

I'm not either of those, but until someone else jumps in ...

Generally, the indoor units require different (and more expensive) vent duct - I believe due to higher BTUs. So your existing venting may have to be replaced and depending on location and length, that could add installation cost.

Outdoor units have no venting at all, since they are already outside. You just slap them on the wall and connect gas and water.

Pretty sure you have to have indoor one in a garage, local code might allow an outdoor in a carport type situation, but unlikely in an enclosed garage. If you current tank one has a vent, then the tankless will need one.

Yeah I'll give this a shot should have the bigger gas pipe already just not sure on venting. Live by myself and my small 40 gal AO Smith is going on 15 years. It's on the list.

Anybody knows operating temperatures for the outdoor unit? Can't find it anywhere.

Will try installing it in PA, with UPS to prevent freezing. Does it need high current to prevent freezing? My guess it can use gas instead...

Odd - what i noticed

The rebates are automatically applied when purchasing from hawthorne store.

If I put to my local store in WA - its full price, but offers 500 in rebates, but its not automatically applied and I have to do the legwork on my own.

If i purchase from hawthorne, ship to WA, it shows discounted price, PLUS the rebates in WA. Im assuming you cant double dip, but if it ships from CA at the discounted price, and you submit a receipt locally to the gas company.....

Depends on your current gas supply. There are tables online and you can calculate if your current line is adequate. If it's not, they'll have to replace the line or increase the pressure at your meter and decrease it at each appliance.

Also have to consider venting.

I am also in WA thinking the same thing, it seems like a plan but too easy. Delivery jumps from $70 to $175 for me when I start to check out so $457 total for the 8 gpm model.
