Sewing machines have been tricky to find for awhile, let alone ones that are 1/2 off. I have had the Singer Stylist 7258 for years, but it started acting up. This seems to be the same machine, but with extra accessories. Good deal for anyone in the market for a new sewing machine.

In for 1, thank you very much.
It's probably not strong enough for you if you stripped the gears on your old machine. You might want to look at heavy duty sewing machines meant for jeans and upholstery.

Ordinarily I would recommend vintage machines with metal gears, but I've found that it's really hard to find parts for vintage machines, so now I focus on current models that still have parts readily available.
this machine is not $450 normally, that is some unrealistic msrp that they claim just to make it look like a deal
directly from singer, it is only $250

I've been looking for a new machine: something entry level-ish but with options to grow into doing more sewing, and to last me for years. Not necessarily for quilting, but not ruling that out. $200 was my hopeful budget. Think this one will suit what I'm looking for well? For non hardcore quilters, do you still recommend?

Thanks! In for one. I created alerts for sewing machines and they hardly go on sale. Why should they go on sale when most of the county is at home... This was a gift and I do not know much about these machines but it is a house brand and 25yr warrenty, so how could I got wrong. If she does not like it, I can return it. It is the thought that counts. This seems like a good price, haven't researched much. The reviews look good as an entry-mid tier machine. Fits for the giftee. I could not stack the 20% couple with this, oh well.

for someone who typically just mends stuff (jeans, kids pants) or would stitch stuff like cushions, but generally heavy fabrics, would this be a good option? or would a heavy-duty one be better? or a used one?

ideally I'd spend as little as possible, but my old singer has stripped its gears and really I want automatic threading...

thoughts?

I bought one. If your store has one on sale in stock its better to go in store than order for pickup. I ordered online and went in store 3 hours later and they cancelled the order because it took them too long to grab the ones they had in store so they didnt have it anymore. They said to just order online. The staff said there is at least a 1 hour delay from online orders to them receiving it, then longer before they can pick it.
