If you plan on installing to toolbox to make it like a stock Android tablet, don't expect it is a true stock Android tablet.
There are still small or big limitations to that depends on your purpose.

I have that on Fire HD 8 from the recent QVC deal and have the toolbox installed. It becomes more like stock Android but not everything works. I found at least.

1. App notification from Google App Store might not work. Facebook messaging works, Skype and Hubitat not. So, you will not receive message or call notifications. It seems to be known issue after posting at xda. If there is an Amazon Store version of the same app, you'd better go with that. So, don't uninstall Amazon Store.

2. Google account setting will not bring up. You can add google account from toolbox but you can't change any setting like what to sync to the tablet like email and contact, they will be always synced.

3. Wechat will not run and it will suspend your account when you go back to other devices saying you used a hacked device. Beware of that if you have people need to communicate using wechat.
Seems like a great deal when combined with HSN2020 code to get $20 off first order.
Good deal that comes around every couple months.

If you do purchase one, which I highly recommend, sideload google play (5 min - can be found on youtube) or use amazon fire toolbox (15 min - can be found on xda) to turn it into essentially a stock android tablet.

My family has owned nearly every type of Fire tablet the past five years and the current gen 10 is a good one. Keep in mind its a budget tablet, so don't expect ipad pro specs/performance; although for $100, these are a steal especially when compared to the other ridiculously bad budget android tablets floating out there.

bought one. $85.xx total.
- will install that XDA thing or maybe just install Google Play services
- will probably use or play around for 3 days
- after that, this will probably end up in a drawer never to be seen again.

Yep it just says it does not recognize and cannot work with maverick outright once I plugged it in. Did you have success with 8.2 on HD10/2019 version amazon fire (Maverick)?
I don't have an HD10 but I did see that error when I tried using the toolbox on a windows 7 PC last year on two HD8's..

EDIT - it looks like they updated it on 9/20 to fix the maverick issue and users have reported it working. I would download it again today.

If this is the latest Fire 10, it uses the Mediatek MT8183 which was introduced in late 2019.

The reports are based on latest model (2020) of HD8, which I don't have so I cannot comment. HD10 is no go still. I'll wait I guess.

Were you able to cast Netflix or other similar streaming apps to Chromecast? Even with toolbox I'm unable to do it.. There's no options for it. That's a huge down side that I didn't see anyone mentioning.

Even the cheapest most basic ipad is miles better than these.

I bought the HD10 1st gen ($120) and and an apple ipad ($199) a few years back.

The difference is enormous. The Fire has always been sluggish and locked up and had tons of quirks. The iPad has been fantastic in comparison.

I have used the ipad 100x more and honestly the HD10 has sat unused and not even charged for 10+ months.

I went to trade it back into Amazon and they offered a $25 trade in value.
I'll keep it for $25 but I will never buy another Fire device ever again.

The iPad is the only tablet worth buying imho.
iPad ages extremely well compared to any other Android tablet. I have iPad Air 1'st gen that I bought in 2014 for $250 and is still working decent. I can't play any big games and open 10 different browser tabs, but my toddler kid watches youtube and plays kids apps and for those activities it just works great. The battery is still great after 6 years. I only have to charge it once every couple of days. Best buy is offering $60 for the iPad. I'm replacing iPad with this fire HD and hoping for the simple use case of Youtube, Netflix and kids games (not CPU intensive) and occasional browsing, news reading etc, It will be on par with 2013 iPad Air for the same price point. :-)

The HD10 is shit, even the 2nd gen one was, throw amazon stock experience on there and it's even worse. This one is actually decent after debloating.

The 1-year Food Network thing is offered to everyone with a Fire Tablet/Stick/device. The app offers TONS of recipes and video demonstrations. Plus a back catalog of commercial free Food Network shows, but it's hit or miss as it doesn't really have current seasons. You also must remember to cancel it before they bill you after your year is up.

Best place to ask this question is XDA Amazon Tool Box thread. Good luck.

P.S.
Realize that if you get a notification, that means there is an app running in the background... this tablet is not that fast and I personally want no notifications.
Yeah, it doesn't look like it's possible Frown Still a good tablet for browsing the internet and watching videos, and the price is awesome. I've been happy with it.

This is much faster.... Hd8 I don't feel it offers a good Android experience due to being so sluggish... Hd10 is also 1080P.

The real question is.... Do u want a 10 or 8 inch tablet? If u r indifferent, I would gladly pay the extra $35 for a hd10.

I got a iPad mini 1st generation..... Not useable today.

My 3 year old hauwei runs amazing.... Mediapad m5, purchased for $285 and it sells today used for about $299.

But yes apple hardware is better, especially their cpu., But like many others I have their ecosystem

If u can debloat all Amazon apps ...... XDA Amazon toolbox and use Killapps, this tablet should last for years.

Don't think it can chromecast.... But ask in the XDA Amazon tool forum. But just use your phone to chrome cast.
