They're owned by the Chinese government, along with Hikvision.
ONVIF, Dahua OEM..

iirc there's a review at ipcamtalk..

update 3:

Indie_airship posted a decent quick youtube review on it
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=141037805&postcount=22

Here's a comparison that youtuber did with this Amcrest and 3 other cameras
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avIzrQOkI9E

The review is quick, but does a decent job as an intro quick review.

Note - you can tune the parameters of the cameras ( especially Amcrest and Hikvision ) to get better images, and also you can tune them just to capture reflective license plates ( check out the ipcamtalk lpr section for more on this - it is a bit of an "art form" )
Amcrest is just an importer/reseller. They don't make anything. The cams are rebranded Dahua so the same applies.

That said, the ban is only for US government and contractors. No prohibition as far as you using them as a private party.

Did anyone find other amcrest deals this amazon prime day?
Hi pkr22

Been watching for deals from Amcrest on Amazon Prime Day.. really did not see much.

Could be significant issues with the supply chain = low inventory levels.

Also was looking for PoE switch deals.. did not see enough on that either...

Amazon Prime Day was not as good for me as in the past..

Yeah, I second that.. Prime day at least for what I was looking for was a bit of a letdown.

But that being said.. Can someone recommend a good poe or poe+ switch to pair with this?

I can report that this camera hooked right up to my Lorex NVR with out a hitch. The night vision is excellent. I haven't seen it in the daylight yet.

Can you go into detail on how you upgraded / converted firmware from Amcrest to Dahua? I'd like the possibility of adding this to a Dahua NVR.....

Once you download the zip file, extract the folder to your desktop.
Go into settings and upgrade with the .bin file. I used the PAL version (no particular reason). I will try the NTSC version once I get a chance.

Name of the .bin file I used to upgrade:
DH_IPC-HX25(8)XX-Molec_MultiLang_PN_V2.800.0000000.15.R.200313.bin

From the ipcamtalk forum, I didn't do much research into reverting the firmware. From what I came across, there may not be a way to revert back to Amcrest firmware. Please read the forum below.

Is there a way to mount this camera without drilling holes in the wall?

I've seen some pictures of the bottom of the camera and it isn't a flush flat service which means I can't stick it on the wall using two-sided mounting tape.

Any suggestions?

I've seen a gutter mount hanger that looked decent for smaller types. Not sure of the Amazon PN but easy to find.

Unfortunately, I don't have a gutter or siding in the location I would place this camera in. Its just a brick wall, which the homeowner does not want any holes drilled into.

I purchased this camera to test out against my other starlight cameras and while the night vision is good in B&W it is no where as good as the true starlight cameras which stay in color even in low light.

I live on a street with no street lights and while i have some exterior lighting the detail was just ok. I was hopeful that this would be good lower cost camera as i would like to add a few more to my system but I think im going to return it and save up a few more dollars for true startlight. I think i would rather spend double and have a few really good quality images then a bunch of cameras that only work marginally good at night.

If your only concerned about the daytime image it is exceptional. You will have no problem being able to fully ID anyone who sholdnt be on your property.

Just to reinforce something here: Crossflashing is very likely a warranty-voiding event on a new budget import camera. People rushing to flash out of the box should think whether or not any value add with Dahua FW is worth that or needed right away.

That being said, the latest Amcrest firmware should be feature identical. You could be voiding your warranty to gain nothing and possibly brick your device.

From when I initially researched this, the Dahua firmware flash wasn't perfect and I think I read some problems where something wasn't functional afterwards. Was it smartIR not working right? I can't find it now.

How's the quality of the camera feed compared to other Lorex camera? And is that the Lorex kit from Costco?

I ordered two to try out and get familiar with setting up a system before I purchase more. I also ordered a "TP-Link 8 Port Poe Gigabit Switch | 4 Port Poe 55W | 802.3AF Compliant" switch. But now I need to get an NVR or some software. What is the recommendation ? Blue Iris? I would like something that offered a trial period to evaluate but I did not see that when looking at Blue Iris.

Also is an Intel NUC good enough to run BI? And on the other route what would be a good NVR to pair this with if one wanted to go that route?

Hooked up my camera as well and looks pretty good. Compared to my 4k Lorex cameras they look crystal clear. Audio is pretty good as well.

Paired easily with Lorex NVR as well.
