Yeah, I can see T-mobile scheming now on the terms:
Add 3 lines of Magenta only, requires 36 months of bill credits, trade-in iPhone X or higher and one major organ ...

Wait, not sure what this means. I thought all these installment phones from tmobile are locked as well, and can only be unlocked after the phone is fully paid off. Do you have a link for this "news"?
It only applies IF the phone was bought DIRECTLY from Apple/Apple store since they carry mostly unlocked phones, NOT when it's done from carrier or it's dealers. Best Buy in the other hand carries ones that HAVE to be activated on US carrier first at which point they get LOCKED to that carrier (it's called "flexible..." something policy), or at least it used to be like that.

This is a TERRIBLE deal. I have an iPhone Xs 256GB. I can either sell it on eBay for ~$400, or I can get $500 from T-mobile with a 30-month lockup. If I choose to leave T-Mobile within that time I'm on the hook for the entire $500. This is worse than when you had to sign 2-year contracts, and you'd get early termination fees that declined by $10 each month into the contract. What a joke!

I'm not an iphone user, but my friend is wanting to upgrade from his iphone 6. He is unclear about what "good" condition usually implies. If it has a small crack in the screen, is that usually a trade-in deal killer? I would assume so, but I guess it's possible they have in-house refurb capabilities that allow them to easily, cheaply fix such issues. Thanks.

These Tmobile offers are not as good as many people thought. Most people doesn't have an account from 2015 when they switch to Magenta from the past deals. If you don't have a new line the trade in value form iPhone 8 is just $415 and the phone costs $250-$280. Literally you just ge about $160 for binding to Tmobile for 30 months with a locked phone. You can easily buy a phone in BF for $160 off MSRP.

Only if you are qualified for that $200 loyalty bonus and you are adding a new line will make this a deal to you.

from past experiences with tmobile, I don't recall a time that they accepted cracks, even a small crack.

Apple is offering the $30 activation discount as they're doing with ATT and Verizon...

No, tmobile
had to have been with tmobile before November 30th 2015

also, for the loyalty promo, check the fine print, I believe the phone you are trading in had to be on the tmobile network anytime from August 2020-October 2020
