Too bad I could never get Braun's shavers to work for me, this is a great deal on a Series 8.

I have never used Arc5. I have been happy with my Braun7. But, I usually see discussion comparing more of Arc5 vs Braun9 [versus Braun8]

I have had the Braun series 7 and 9 and I am currently using the Arc 5 for the past year. Biggest difference for me Braun is less irritating but Panasonic is a closer shave.
If you don't shave on the weekends Panasonic struggles on Monday (gets hot) but makes no mess. Braun requires multiple passings but is smooth but leaves clippings on the sink so if you aren't going to clean it up don't have a wife that will nag you. Braun cleaning station is the best but refills can be pricey. Panasonic is easy and free to clean manually and don't get their cleaning station it is garbage. Panasonic replacement foil cost is over 50% more than braun.
Both do better with an electric preshave and supposedly Panasonic really excels in the shower but I only tried it once and it was not for me.

I have an 8 series and the battery was losing some stamina. I bought a 7 series on a good deal. They are very similar, but I think the 8 series is "smoother" when shaving and gives a slightly closer shave. Looks like a great deal at this price.

I got the Arc5. It's a good foil shaver.

You completely don't need the cleaning station. the instructions say put a couple drops of soap or detergent on the head, add a little water so it gets inside, and turn in on for about 30 seconds. Rinse and you're done. No soap pod subscriptions.

7 vs 8 series pros and cons ?
Can't speak for the 8, but I can for the 7.

The Series 7 of today looks slightly different from when I bought it back in 2012. Literally today, I figured I find a way to clean it finally, like a deep clean. I don't know if Phillips and the competing brands are the same in terms of build quality, but disassembling my Series 7 was so disgusting as it was built with almost 9 years of gunk. I took it apart down to the internals like the motor head, trimmer blade and battery computer.

Surprisingly, the battery still runs fine and upon opening things up (need star drivers, which you can easily find in an "IT Screwdriver set"). To my biggest surprise, the internals were definitely watertight after all these years with not a sign of water leaking in, AND the battery is a replaceable lithium battery. Huge pluses for me.

Tearing this apart to clean was gratifying, but also knowing that a pro for Braun's in general are that they can be maintained if you're comfortable with a couple of screws and sliding pieces in and out.

IMO, these Braun's are basically for built for life, as long as the shaver head (I've literally only changed mine out maybe 3 times over 9 years because I'm cheap) and of course, the motor doesn't die out on me (though replace motors can be bought for a fraction of the cost of a new shaver).

Overall, I can attest to Braun's worth of their products. Hope the build quality's up to par with 2020's Series 7 and 8 too!

In 2019 Braun "updated" the series 7 and the quality is not what it used to be in the model you have. I used to have an older series 7 prior to them changing the replacement heads to the "pulsonic" version. The old series 7 was the best shave of them all, better than Arc 5, and series 9 IMO but unfortunately you can no longer get those foils. They used to go for an extreme premium on eBay but dried up a few years ago.

This series 8 supposedly has a longer battery life than the current series 7 and a redesigned cutting foil that gets closer with less irritation then the 7 also it works better on long flat neck hairs that are a weakness with the 7 and the 9.

I too have a 2012ish era 7 series that is still kicking, but the cleaning base flakes out a bit sometimes. I was thinking about upgrading to the 8 series at this price.
