R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

First Phobio phone updated to "checked in" after being there a full 72 hours. Now to see how long for inspection and payment.

I don't understand why bother to check if the Cricket phones are unlocked. Why would they even sell unlocked phones at such a deep discount? Even if those sites say unlocked, you wouldn't trust it until you open the box and activate the phone to see if it's indeed.

Just to contribute a datapoint for the iphone SE I received:
  • IMEI24 website check indicates that the iphone is locked.
  • Opened box, activated phone, and updated to iOS14. Settings show that SIM is restricted.
  • Tried using a Mint Mobile SIM card, doesn't work.
Looks like I didn't win the lottery.
