Shaved my head and finally got a girlfriend, was a good decision.
I've been using minoxidil for 5 years, it definitely works but don't expect a miracle. It mostly helps save your existing hair and thickens some of it up. It also takes months to see results. My only regret is not starting a few years earlier.

and do you have a source for claiming that 1% and that 99.9999999% thing you just mentioned?
1% = major study on a shit ton of participants go google it

But let me predict the future
Me: Make factual claim
You: Study???
Me: Provides study
You: Proceeds to try and discredit study (based on 0 medical knowledge or training)

Thanks but no thx

I was genuinely curious to have a source and was not trying anything else.

I did find this a peer-reviewed survey paper:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/...MC3481923/

While the side effect rates are definitely higher than 1%, it seems its still relatively low for the dosage (1mg). There is a risk of permanent side-effects even after stopping but those are very rare. Overall conclusion seems like the drug is safe but one needs to be cautious and monitor their side-effects regularly. Depending on how important your hair is for you, it maybe worth it.

Protip. Ask your doctor for a prescription for generic Proscar 5mg (finasteride) and use a pill slicer to quarter it thus taking 1mg once a day.

It'll come out to anywhere from free to 3$ a month, is way more effective then Rogaine, doesn't require the obnoxiousness of using Rogaine, and doesn't cause all the shitty side effects like dry skin itchy scalp and dandruff like Rogaine.

Most importantly it actually does a better job at doing what it's supposed to. It's commonly called Propecia (the brand name for hair loss) but that shit is like 80-130$ a month). Vs what I mention above whux is the exact same thing for basically free.

This. Can confirm. Yes I am a doctor

Please don't give medical advice lol... finasteride has a higher chance of causing erectile dysfunction and most guys don't want to risk that
Telling people to talk to their doctor about a prescription only drug isn't quite giving medical advice

Also far more people get erectile dysfunction from obesity than do from finasteride. Finasteride is the most effective hairloss drug out there, is well researched, and can easily be combined with minoxidil if you so desire.

I've been getting generic 5mg Proscar (finasteride) for years. Cut them in 4.

I use that along with generic Rogaine. Just For Men sold their's for a while with a precision spray bottle that I just refill. Much better than the eyedropper style.

SHAVE YOUR HEAD! You tell mother nature "F you!, I'm in control of my hair, not you, B@#!"

Luckily, it's gotten to the point that nobody cares if you shave your head bald and it's way more acceptable than it was even 10 years ago. Do it. Nothing looks worse than someone holding onto that horseshoe haircut or looking like Charlie Brown. I speak from experience. It's a little weird at first but then once you realize people aren't looking at you like you think they are, it's freeing.... You just have to shave it every 2-3 days.

And you don't have to put chemicals on your skin or take poison pills.

Agreed, been shaving over 15 years. 🪒

This isn't a scientific study...there's one large one with 1K+ participants and another including references to the nocebo effect, meaning once ppl knew the side effects they were more likely to claim they had them and were way overblown.

The mind is an amazing thing.

I was advised by my doctor to stop taking finasteride as it increases risk of prostate cancer. Relying solely on minoxidil at this point
Mine told me the same thing and I just came off it. However, then I find this. A newer study disputes the first one, and found no increase in risk. So you might want to talk to your Dr again, and show them this new study. It seems like even if there is a risk, it is extremely low.

Same experience here, been using finasteride and minoxidil to counter early balding/thinning since 23. I didn't even have shedding or redness/tingling. If there was a high level of side effects, I don't think stores would have it on the shelf as much as they do. I wish I started way earlier. I had already lost some follicles which can't be undone without surgery but all the follicles I do have is not pumping out oodles of hair. I went from regular comments of "damn your hair is thinning" to awesome hair. It takes a while but it does work. I only apply the minoxidil 1 a day after a shower. Twice if I shower 2 times in one day. If you do any form of TRT, this is a must. 90 day supply finasteride 1mg is $10 at costco and hyvee using GoodRx, even $6 at dillons.

Side note, if you have a patchy beard, the minoxidil can help. I had a spot that wouldn't grow much hair and applied the foam once a day, the spot eventually grew hair much better.
Do you need a doctor's prescription to get it at costco? I hate the fact that when I run out, I have to go back to the doctor's to get a prescription again and seeing the dermatologists costs like $100....

Hey, can I ask how you're doing this? It turns me off whenever I have to go see a dermatologist to get a prescription for finasteride. The visit alone costs like over $100.
