These are non-4k and do not come with a remote. The new Google chromecast TV is best option at $50
Depends. This can only do 1080p and doesn't have a remote with user interface. You'd need another device (i.e. smartphone or computer) to control your media. I would not get this personally because the 4K Firestick and 4K capable Roku stick are roughly only $10 more and offer better performance. The main benefit of this vs those two options is the option to stream videos from a Chrome browser to your TV, which is nice for when you're streaming something online on your computer but want to watch it on your TV without having to deal with cables. If that's something you really want then this is a cool device for that, but if you're patient, I'd suggest waiting to see if the Chromecast with Google TV goes on sale. It can stream 4K and comes with a remote and Android OS, so you can download a lot of different apps.
Some reviews say it disconnects a lot... btw no free shipping @ Walmart unless over $35... and Google adds $10 fee for shipping+taxes

I wouldn't use this model even if was free.

I've been using the 4th gen Chromecast with Google TV with my 1080p projector and it's like having a huge Android TV experience.

I'd wait until the price drops from $50 to maybe $30 or so to consider purchasing a second unit for my trips.
Now that hopefully you can navigate a captive portal for wifi. This is why I used to carry a fire stick for travel. Hotel WiFi always requires a login. Old CC couldn't handle that.

By the way guys, you can pickup for free at Walmart, Target, or BB. I posted it a few days ago but the mods aren't updating the description. Don't limit yourself to the Google Store unless you want white.

Don't buy this. The 4th gen "Chromecast With Google TV" is considerably better (I own both)
The 4th gen is the one that has a mic and can listen to voice commands right? Having a device that's always listening makes me nervous.

You push the button to enable listening. The 4th gen also has a whole interface. Gen 1-3 of chromecast is just chromecast enabled. They are 2 completely different devices.

You can buy a $10 adapter to make these music casters. Which google doesn't sell any more.

Anyone got any ideas what I can do with older gen 1 and gen 2 chrome casts if I upgrade?
if you've already got these, why upgrade?
My gen-1 is still going strong.

Two reasons I got rid of my 1st gen chromecast: no 5ghz wifi and cannot add to a Chromecast audio speaker group. This was the last device that needed 2.4ghz, so I can turn that off, and my 5ghz gives me a more stable connection. If I didn't have a lot of interference on all the 2.4ghz channels here, I could probably live with it not being able to to be grouped with all of my SmartStream X devices that I picked up for ~20 each awhile back.
