i have the 2 stage version of this along with a corded. Best advice I tell people is what expectations are you looking for out of an electric unit. This won't plow through snow like a gas. If you get 6 inches or less, either will be fine. It won't throw wet snow. It won't throw iced over snow. It's it fresh and plush, it will throw snow.

One thing I do notice is that with a cordless is that the battery life will decrease based on the weight of the snow. If it's heavy and dense, it will wear out faster. With a corded, it's just going to work regardless of the load. A corded will always be a hassle especially if it's cold outside and finding a heavy gauge extension cord.

Best to temper those expectations when buying something like this. I like to shovel snow 2 or 3 times a storm as it's easier on my back. I got the 2 stage because it allows me to plow through 2-3 inches at a time without any issues.

If I had to do this all over again, I would get another brand like kobalt or greenworks. There is more of a support and versatility of batteries.
BEWARE! amazon has this product description wrong. The augur is made entirely of plastic. It is not steel in any way. I bought this seeing the $259 being cheaper than the current offer of $270 for the 18 inch equivalent model. Turns out here is a reason. I called snow joe just now and they acknowledged the mistake on amazon, "we are aware". I used this once, to clean up after the storm we had here in Boston last week. It feels cheap with the plastic. The snow joe guy confirmed that the steel auger makes a significant difference (I haven't owned a snowblower before). I am returning the 20" plastic auger one and will replace with the 18" steel auger one. Smaller size for $11 more but you get better quality parts. Snow joe does make a cordless 24" steel auger mode but it's like $1299. don't buy this mislabeled deal!!

I just used the 18 in model to clear most of one foot of snow from my short driveway last week - NJ - no problems - it does take some physical effort - but patience and learning how to be efficient - make this worth consideration for smaller areas. Obviously this can not compete with a two stage gas blower and is not meant to be. The other benefit - no oil or gas or plugs.

How does this compare with the Hybrid Model? It can plug in or battery, same price.

I just cancelled my order for the $270 one. After doing more research, I think the big limiting factor like everyone says is the battery availability.

I picked up the sj627e from lowes. $162 then 10% military discount.

It is 15 amp with 22 inch clearing path. But you have to factor in the cost of a 12/3 outdoor cord and gfci dongle. You don't have to work about losing battery power, but now you are limited by the cord.

Looks like avg around $330 over last few months according to camel. Solid deal and love two batteries over corded. (I'm not talking about 2-stage gas and that whole other level).

Very tempted but everytime I'm about to pull trigger I back out because I'm in the Seattle (near downtown, for you fellow Puget Sounders) area and we rarely see bad enough snow where I'm at for me to justify. Yet I know it's one of those "Lord am I glad I bought one!" things when you do really need it. Decisions...
I"m in the same boat as you (although I live on the Kitsap Peninsula). I'd love to have a "real" (gas) snowblower again like I had when I lived in the Northeast but can't justify that here. I ended up breaking down and getting a corded model from Walmart a couple weeks ago when it was on sale for $100. I'm not loving the idea of a cord but I dislike wasting money on batteries even more.

From an owner for four years (old version): Get a gas one if your snow is heavy enough for a blower.

I have about 300' of driveway and sidewalk that I would need to clear on the few times we get enough snow that I'd need to. With 50' extension cords (heavy gauge, cold-weather rated) getting power would not be an issue.

All that said, any thoughts on a corded vs a battery one like this for my situation. In particular, how much of a hassle are cordeds for what I'd be looking at?

I'd be looking at this corded, for example:

https://amazon.com/dp/B008FV5R2C/...UTF8&psc=1
Where I live we get like 35% severity of Lake Effect (compared to the actual LE areas) snow every year. Most electric blowers just can't cut it when the snow is hard packed, iced or wet. I think someone else replied with how to temper your expectations, and they are spot on. Just wanted to +1 their advice.

Completely different price category but I put my single-stage EGO (w/ dual 5ah batteries) through two MN winters so far. Snow, slush - does our sidewalks (plus 3 neighbors), front/side/rear walks, patio space, and rear parking pad (20x20) and it's never run out of juice on me. I have an alley so we're throwing our snow back along our parking space and over a 4' fence into our yard, so it's definitely not weak.

I live in the Boston area as well, and used the 18 inch, steel auger model (ion18sb) to clear my driveway (~20x50). Though it wasn't easy or fast, I was surprised at how well the ion18sb worked when I broke down the ~foot of snow into 6 inch piles. It actually made want to buy this model, but after reading your comment I'm going to hold off. Thanks for the information!

Correct. At that price point that you paid for that ego, most could have gotten a dual stage gas.

i have never used their snowblower but there's something i wanted to point out. Joes have horrible customer service. i had brought a power washer from through amazon and they sent me a defective part. it took over 2 months to get the part after sending numerous emails (their phone numbers never worked everytime i called)

I have a 75 foot driveway and without a doubt... buying a corded snowblower was the stupidest idea ever. The whole concept of "don't run over the cord" is easier said than done when things get slippery outside and visibility is low. My next unit will be either battery or gas. Most of my tools are gas, but considering it doesn't snow much in northern virginia, the fact that a battery unit is guaranteed to start is a huge plus.

So many two stage gas snowblowers on Facebook marketplace in this price range. Very satisfying to roll through a foot of heavy snow and the machine doesn't even blink. Whatever gets you inside to the warmth and hot cocoa faster... electric will not be it.

How does this unit compare to the recent Greenworks post? The Greenworks is 80v but 2ah battery. Which would work better? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...083ee10INT

The greenworks is a mile ahead of this unit, even only considering the included battery, 80v 2ah is slightly lower than the 2x 24v @4ah, however higher voltage corless systems are way more efficient.

Also the greenworks can be easily modded to fit kobalt 80v battery, which frequently has great deals on all kinds of nice tools. Many slickdealers already have a couple kobalt 80v batteries.

Due to quality and availability, I'd say if you plan to go cordless in outdoor tools, stick with the kobalt/gw 80v line, forget about any other brand.

You will thank me down the road. Smilie
