I'll bite but I do loath supporting either H&R or TurboTax. They spend millions lobbying Politicians to keep the tax code at a level of complexity that keeps them relevant.
Weren't we supposed to get tax reform so we could do our taxes on a 3x5 card?
Don't give up yet. Last year Amazon's deal was on Jan.17.
Last FP deal for Deluxe + State was $21.49. Ugh. With all my digital credits, I wish Amazon would match. I may just grab it from Newegg instead.

Can anyone provide a valid reason to buy this software versus using FreeTaxUSA?
You can transfer last year's files to this year? A guarantee? Heck, I am happy just paying $18 instead of the hundreds of $$$$ I would pay the guy/girl/other? at the desk.

Incorrect. This only applies to long term capital gains. Short term capital gains are considered a form of income and are taxed.
That is what I figured. If you made $6000 at McDonald's last year and cleared $210,000 in the stock market, you would pay $0? I think not.

I was hoping to make it easy when you do federal transfer to state and your done. I am seeing what I will do this year.
We always mail our Missouri forms in. They get back a lot quicker than Federal.

Incorrect. Capital gains rates are dependent on income. If you have no taxable income, your capital gains rate is 0%.
Oh boy, the IRS will be talking with you shortly. You better be clinching your butt for the next 7 years. lol

Any opinions , is this is better than TurboTax?
I have typically used this software but this year picked up TurboTax at Costco. There isn't much difference and I plan to return to using H&R Block software next year. The imports work better with H&R and I do not see any benefit of TurboTax, having used them both now.

Hr block is fine for most situations. TT does handle ira recharacterizations and PTPs whereas hr block cant.

Would H&R Block allow one to upgrade the purchased version to a higher version (with added fee of course) once it's installed on a computer?
After I installed Deluxe+State from this offer, it gave me an option in-program to upgrade to Premium for $20. Far better to just buy Premium thru this offer in the first place.

At what point do we all just refuse to do our taxes unless the government sends us a bill?

I'm tired of paying company x to help me figure out how much I owe government y when government y already knows and is going to fine me if I get it wrong. SEND ME A BILL.

There's a product comparison chart and shows premium includes 1 state program.

I looked through a few pages of comments but didn't see anyone ask;

Is there a reason people are jumping on this deal instead of using a free filing service like CreditKarma? I've used CK for the past 3 years and have had no issues, but would like to know if there's a reason to pay $20 right here.
