Use Fire toolbox to remove Ads on lock screen and bloatware. No rooting or complicated commands just point and click. Most you have to do is put tablet into Developer mode option.
You can download it from XDA forums after a search on Google. Not sure if I can post the link in comments.
I mostly want to use the tablet to read in bed, where I'll be using my hands to hold it up. For that purpose, would the 8 be better since it's lighter?
Thanks!
If you are not in a hurry wait for deal on the 10 actually it is lighter the 10 is 1.1 and 8 is 1.48 and yea I can feel it when I am holding it
(Reading only 8 might be enough)
Got the HD 8 today. Swapped launcher out for Lawnchair via ADB, installed play store, and everything works pretty well. Netflix, YouTube TV, NHL.tv on VPN, etc. Definitely worth $60.

The 10 is definitely not lighter than the 8, it's about 40% heavier.
The 8 Plus is 12.5oz, the 10 is 17.8oz
For reading, the 8 would suffice, but if that is your primary purpose you might prefer a true Kindle which will be even lighter and have a much better screen for reading.
buying kids that young a tablet is a sin.
Buy them a skate board and a model kit
Okay boomer, we get it, back in your day you had to walk three miles to school, in the snow, uphill both ways, you had to do all your school work in #2 pencil, and the only entertainment you had was whatever you could craft using your imagination, a pair of dull scissors, and old copies of your dad's Reader's Digest.
But here in 2021, it's entirely possible for a healthy and well-rounded kid to have a tablet, a skateboard, and even some STEAM kits!
I got shipping confirmation yesterday and per UPS it is currently in transit.
I got a cancellation notice as well, not one, three times, I called to the customer service and they said they cannot sell to me? never happened, looks like overselling tablets
I believe you can use 8 for watching movie, reading, youtube, etc.. not gaming. Since it's not heavy compare to a 10. I mainly use my 8 while traveling or laying on bed.

I know people will flame me but still, I'd say it's time amazon pays customers for using their tablets.
Unless these tablets can be rooted. toolbox has limitations.
Anybody buy this using Paypal checkout? I see the Paypal email about the transaction but didn't get an order confirmation email. Can't check my order cause I have no order number.
Is this 'with ADs' version or no ADs version? I received mine today, but couldnt figure out what model it is... But I see random amazon ads on the lock screen though

Yes, I used PayPal when I purchased the deal. Looking back at my inbox, looks like I received both the PayPal "You've Authorized a Payment" and HSN's "Order Confirmation From HSN" email within a minute of each other.

It's a tablet for a 3rd/4th grader, so it doesn't need to be a world beater.
Also, it looks like these are the same price at BestBuy, so if folks have bonus bucks saved up, the deal gets a bit sweeter.
