I purchased two of these from Newegg two weeks ago. I immediately shucked them (my first time ever) and can confirm that I received IronWolf Pros inside. They're pretty quick with transfers in the 250MB/second range which is perfect for my NAS. This obviously means that they're 7200RPM drives. I haven't had any issues with heat or noise either but they are noticeable when writing or reading large amounts of data.
The 14TB seagate has a 6.6 times higher failure rate than the 14tb WD according to the newest numbers on Backblaze.

Every time seagate comes out with a new line of drives we buy them at work to try, and about one year later we are sorry. HGST and WD only if you want your stuff to last. Will other brands have failures? Sure, but not like clockwork. I have been running servers with Toshiba, HGST, and mostly WD drives since 250GB was the biggest drive you could get. Every year or so I go to the next reliable size. I would never put a seagate in anything I build or fix after seeing literally thousands of them fail.

I am not sure saying we should throw out decades of experience makes any sense, should we forget they suck every year? They did not just have one series of drives that sucked, they have had numerous generations of garbage drives that only last about a year over many decades. Other drives have had series that were unreliable, but not 90% of what they have made like seagate.

Sorry for the kinda rant, just don't understand the "they are better now with this newest generation" seagate posts I have been seeing for 10+ years and also don't understand why those same people say we need to get over decades of failures. Until we have at least 5 years of them not sucking they will remain the crap of the harddrive world. I have seen too much pain caused by seagate to give them the benefit of the doubt every time they come out with new crap.
I buy exclusively Seagate drives and I have hundreds of TB of storage. Any one who says Seagate drives are unreliable needs to stop repeating decade old information. Seagate had a series of drives that were less reliable that WD. That has changed. You can go check Backblaze to see their posted failure rates. Also, with the SMR/CMR/ "NAS drive" marketing schenagans WD has pulled, WD has burned any goodwill I had towards them. Buy whichever drive you want, but Seagate drives are good.

No, this has no processing power of it's own. It's just a hard drive in an enclosure that you can connect to a computer via USB. You can take the hard drive out and use it in a NAS though

I don't have experience with enough volume of drives to speak on reliability, but many people have steered me away from seagate drives in general.

Not saying to not go for this if you like the price, but keep in mind that WD might be a little better off if you intend on putting the drive through its paces

Comes to 14.20 a TB, which is pretty good. Not as good as the $190 for 14TB WD drive on Black Friday but a pretty good deal nonetheless.

My personal experience has been that WD is superior in performance over Seagate external HDDs.

According to this thread the shucked drives from Seagate will still be eligible for warranty, which is allegedly not true for WD. What you do with that information is your responsibility.
