I disagree very few people I know want this.
There's currently a pretty specific set of people who benefit a lot from Stadia. If you're in an area with great Internet (fiber, or at least not horrifically over-committed cable - does that even exist in places like the US? ;-) ) and are playing a game like Destiny 2 which is always-on anyway, it's really nice to let Stadia take care of the system updates and hardware upgrades for you for a low flat fee. If you're constrained for space, don't like physical media, etc, it also might make sense IMO.

But there's a lot of cases for folks who don't fall into that target, and even some who do for whom it still isn't practical - e.g. I have good Internet, but have several kids I usually play games at home with simultaneously, and one stream seems to work fine but I dont want to try 3 or 4 simultaneously.

On top of this is all the issues that people have already observed elsewhere, with what feels like game companies steadily eroding the concept of what owning a game means. People who care strongly about such things will likely never be a target for Stadia or Geforce Now and the industry isn't helping.

But live service always-on games are a pretty popular thing nowadays, so I can see the benefit fora specific set of folks. We will see what happens in the long run regarding Internet - especially if data caps continue to be foisted on users it seems dicey.

I fall into that group that has great internet (gigabit) but stadia is just not compelling for me I have one google actually gave me and my experience was poor. Geforce now is more appealing to me personally cause it can use my existing steam account but even that I dont use often....I love physical games but they have become less valuable in the last few years since most released games need massive day 1 patches anyway so owning physical is less useful Frown

Stadia is pretty awesome and gets a bad rap for now reason. I vastly prefer it over my consoles. The whole industry is inevitably headed that way. If Google dropped Stadia, they'd be leaving literally billions of dollars of revenue on the table for Microsoft and Amazon. Google is only 1 of 3 companies with the network capable of delivering cloud gaming worldwide.
I know what you're saying, but there are definitely issues...I got Borderlands 3 Ultimate or whatever edition for a few bucks within the last few months. It does not support crossplatform play between Steam/Epic, so it might as well be a singleplayer game for my purposes.

More than that, the scary thing about Stadia etc - if it somehow ever overtakes Steam - is that everything is on their servers. I don't think it'll ever overtake it though, because internet infrastructure is just a joke honestly... and many people just won't have the internet speeds/stability for it to be viable.

I will say though that this sale seems decent. I'm just not sure I would buy any multiplayer games, considering the above mentioned issue of crossplatform being a problem. Like Hitman might be a decent game to get here, considering the cost. Not sure if the games will be hosted as long as Steam though...

I also want to say, in Stadia's favor, that something like Stadia would be one of the best things for anti-cheat. Can't really modify the game files as well if it's all streamed to you, I'd think... but maybe they could still figure out a way. I guess at the least, there will always be things like modded controllers that give macros and other slight advantages.

Either way, I'm happy for more competition. It's a shame that Stadia doesn't seem to be doing as well as they hoped, and that crossplatform multiplayer play is lacking for at least some games

I think Stadia is looking like a great replacement of my aging Ouya. Thanks for the heads up.

I've tried Stadia and it works well for me, but because of my 1tb monthly data limit, it's just not an option for me.

Agreed. But the problem really lies in the fact (as mentioned by a poster above) is that there simply isn't the internet infrastructure in most of the U.S. for this. Many people, including myself, are strangled by the duopolies that exist in most areas which have little reason to upgrade their lines at the moment.
The internet loves to say this, but it's not nearly as true as it was 5 years ago. Every major city has gigabit fiber. I've traveled all over rural Ohio, Iowa, Colorado, California, and Florida, and I have yet to find an area where an ISP doesn't deliver at least 50mbps. Hell, every rural town in America is covered by a Verizon tower and that provides up to 80mbps - obviously you run into data caps with cellular, but Stadia works over LTE as well. You only need like 12mbps for it to work.

Besides, Cloud Gaming works today, but it's going to excel tomorrow. Give it 5 - 10 years and there will be no discernible difference to the average gamer between playing locally and streaming.

It gets a bad rap for a reason. Google has a habit of shutting down anything that isn't Search, YouTube, Maps, or Gmail. With that in mind, if Stadia were to be shut down, what happens to the games that you bought but don't actually download? Will Stadia refund customers' money? Just pay you out with Play Points? It's not like PS or Xbox where you can just download your games if necessary. What exactly are the pros to Stadia?

Anyone who wants to try Stadia can do so for free. In fact, you don't even need to activate a trial pro account. You can just sign up and play Destiny 2 for free.

If you are interested in the free trial of Pro, message me for a referral link.

"The Internet"?

I live in Silicon Valley and the difficulty in finding what is almost inexistent high-speed internet is appalling. I don't even have access to Gigabit and I work for an enormous tech company and am less than 15 min drive from Apple, Google, Facebook.

The strangehold that these cable companies have over this area is incredible and their continued apathy toward upgrading is apparent.

I just purchased some games using my Google play rewards. Cost nothing for a few really decent games that I can essentially play from anywhere.

My thoughts on Stadia.
-- Try it. The huge benefit that so many seem to overlook is that you can get start playing a top game today small initial cost; under $100 if you need a controller (your existing X-Box or generic controller will work on a PC
-- Stadia generally works great. If you have over 15 mbps, you are fine. Many coffee houses have that. From a streaming perspective, the overall impression I and my peer group have is is "this works amazingly well!". Once a session, my screen might freeze-frame for .25 seconds, or got into a 1-sec slow-motion...but its not that big of a deal, and its not that frequent.
-- The convenience is astounding; I can play a AAA title from my crappy work laptop. I start a game of Madden at home on my TV, and finish in the afternoon on my work PC. Seamlessly.
-- The game library is small, and the user base is small.
-- There are limited local (same-room) multiplayer games for it (though there are some), but the tech works. A purchased game will be available to your google family, but only 1 person can play it at a time (e.g. my daughter and I cannot play Madden 21 on different screens at the same time).
-- Stadia reddit forum was sent in a dither because Google killed the game dev team. They assume this means the eventual death of the platform. Only the great G knows, but I do not think that's a safe assumption.

Google has not rolled Stadia out well. But in my experience, the platform changes the flexibility of the gaming dynamic in ways that are not fully captured as folks make a comparison to a $400 console purchase. The ability to play anywhere with a decent internet connection, anytime, is fantastic. And the ability to dive in without buying hardly any hardware is incredible.

Reminds me of buying an electric car; I bought an electric car a year ago, and had done a ton of research ahead of that purchase. I put together spreadsheets on out-of-state trip times to understand how much added charging time would be needed, and how painful it would be going out of my way to charge. And its true that occasionally the electric vehicle makes a long trip longer. But looking back, I did not fully understand at the time was the day to day convenience of having a vehicle with a "full tank" (charge) ready for me every morning; that has made the experience overwhelmingly positive. I feel the same way about Stadia, once experienced my reaction has been "this is how it should work".

Has anyone here purchased "Cyberpunk" on Stadia and requested a refund and gotten it? I'm thinking of buying the game but want the ability to get my money back, if it's not for me.
