The reviews are accurate. The problem with this unit is that it will likely arrive damaged.

Regardless of the reviews, last summer I was in desperate need and ordered one from Amazon. Sure enough, as I helped the UPS driver yank it off the truck, I could tell it traveled over a rough road. Root cause: the packaging offers adequate protection for transporting a bag of socks but certainly not a large consumer appliance… just thin cardboard and maybe inch of foam on the base and the top corners. No padding. I kid you not. Ten-dollar toasters ship in a better packaging.

Amazon issued a full refund and neither wanted to replace it nor have me return it.
Banged up it is, yet by luck, its air tight and works well. It sits in the basement and serves a purpose, so the cosmetics are a non-issue for me.

Based on the posts I've read from several e-tailer sites, I believe they arrived from China unscathed as they are transported in mass quantities on a pallet. When the pallet arrives at your local Costco all is good. Its only problematic when shipping an individual unit. I don't fault the final delivery. The logistics are broken.
I would spend a bit more getting an upright freezer make your life a lot easier. I owned a chess freezer and most of the time it is a pain to dig things from the bottom of the freezer or if not it will just sit there forever.
In for one so I can tell others I have a Koolatron

These things keep going up in price. I paid $170 for a 7.0 that wasn't on sale, at Sam's in the fall of last year. Thomson was the brand. It's now normally $200 with $20 savings right now for $180. That's crazy the upward pressure on prices continues to have.

Thanks OP. Bought the Danby. Been waiting for a good deal on chest freezer from a reputable store and you can't get much better than Costco, if at all.

I went with the Danby because it had better reviews, and a 5 year warranty. Delivers Monday!

Well one, things go up in price over time. Two, all appliances have increased in demand due to the pandemic this year.

This is what inflation looks like. The fed says 2% but everything in my life is 6%.

I mean I'm not blind that the demands on freezers have been great with the pandemic, but I would have thought it would have flattened out or come down by now. Like are there really still a bunch of people that are stocking up? Would have thought with vaccine out would have helped ease people up some.

Completely agree. Have had a chest freezer for a while and I hate it.
Would definitely suggest spending more on an upright.

Unless you enjoy freezing your hands while digging to the bottom of a chest freezer just to find out you don't have what you're looking for while also discovering something you forgot was in there...lol

Costco is very sly how they charge shipping for items on there website. instead of charging shipping they just make the price higher online then in store... doesn't go for all items but some to most...one thing I will say usamsclub beat them in.. they don't charge shipping or mark there prices up online... they exactly show you in club price and online price side by side
Wow. I did not know that. I am going to boycott Costco. It will be a 3 second boycott. 1, 2, 3...whew...that was a long time.

Bought the Danby around last Christmas time (for a higher price though, lol any chance I would get a credit from Costco?).
So far so good, it is considered garage ready, has a nice finish.
The only minor thing is the door has a strong spring, so when closing it be careful not to just let it go - it will slam down...
Costco typically price match even if it's been 3 months

The Danby doesn't appear to be Energy Star rated - for those that care.
