Right now, we are in the middle of the cycle, it's the best time to get a Wifi 6 system.
The first router Wifi 6 router was released in 2018, but most mesh systems came out at 2020. Some major manufacturers (Google and Unifi) still didn't fully embrace it (Unifi has a Wifi 6 AP, but not a UDM).
Right now, there is one wifi 6e router and one wifi 6e client device. By this timeline, Wifi 6E will become mainstream somewhere in 2023.

"Wait for something" is rarely a good advice in tech. New stuff comes out all the time and by the time something reaches mainstream, next best thing is already at the door.
i always love these threads, >90% of homes won't even max out a wifi 5 router (google is your friend)

Average wifi 5 mesh router can't reach the theoretical max of 3.5Gbps throughput, most are around 2Gbps. Average netflix 4k or amazon 4k stream is around 25Mbps. So unless you are streaming 81 separate streams at the same exact time and have fiber to your house to handle it...wifi 5 is fine for you.

Lets say you have a media server...average full fledge raw bluray stream is around 75Mbps....so you are still fine, unless

9/10 times, folks are limited by their modem, its not your router.

"omg but I need more".

Buy a wifi 5 mesh orbi or linksys network on ebay, 3 nodes for $100. Youll solve all coverage issues and not have any problems. Add more nodes if you have a multi story house.

Wifi 6 won't fix your coverage issue if you have wifi 5...just as an fyi, they both have similar ranges.

For reference, I have > 80 devices connected on a wifi 5 and a media server...no issues with a family of 6 across 5000 sqft single story. Even once 8k is mainstream and have a media server, still pretty confident wifi 5 will handle it.

Routers have become fridges

By the time you can get a decent 6e mesh router in this price range, Wifi 7 will be just around the corner

I bought this through Costco a while ago (the three pack) and I can say that it has improved my network coverage and reliability. Granted I was coming from the old Google WiFi, but still I am pleased with the improved speed. It bring Triband certainly helps since our current place doesn't have many wired connections. I would definitely recommend these. I have a 1GB Fios connection and no longer have buffering or network drops.

My orbi rbr50 has given me so much trouble. Randomly rebooting during my daughter's zoom class time. Not sure about this new model but I have sweared my orbi rbr50 will be my last netgear buy.

I just got a wifi 6E router and it's great. Google it. Buy something future proof - get a 6E router. The Asus AXE11000 is very nice. That is what I just got and it hasn't disappointed.

I don't think you or anyone understand the release cycle. WiFi 7 release date is in 2024. So general purpose devices will start showing up in 2025-26. WiFi 6e is already here and general purpose devices r around the corner. But whatever suits you.

Waiting on the 3 pack to come on sale. Should've jumped on the Costco deal a while back for $430.

I'm looking at those as well. What exactly was better? Speed, coverage, less drops?

I got my Orbi from Costco. However, I will NOT recommend anyone to buy it. It has a software problem that has a random DNS drop-off. The problem is related to dnsmasq. When this happens, the router DNS will not work and you need to reboot the router multiple time. For a over 300$ router, it is very painful and not worth the money.

If you have the same problem, here is the detail and it still has no solution or firmware upgrade for it: https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/com...pping_dns/

I tested both systems when they were on sale at costco and they were either the same or the x60 was slightly faster for me. Amazing given the price difference.

TP link x60 is not as good. No dedicated wireless backhaul. I've tried both. Returned the x60

Unless you have Internet speeds of 1Gbps, you won't really benefit from WiFi 6E.

While I only know of the asus axe11000 router, there are plenty of 6e clients access cards out.
