Costco Citi Visa card only 1% cash back for gas purchase at Costco's competitors.
Are you aware that Costco Visa card 4% cash back for gas purchase only applied at Costco location? 
You will earn 4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year in gas purchases and then 1% thereafter. You will only earn 1% cash back, not 4%, for gas purchased at superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores and warehouse clubs other than Costco or for fuel used for non-automobile purposes. These merchants are excluded: Ahold, Albertson's, BJ's, Canadian Tire Corp Ltd, Carrefour, City Market, Food 4 Less, Food Giant, Fred Meyers, Fresh Food Centers, Fresh Market, Fry's Fuel, Giant Eagle, IGA INC, Ingles Markets, King Soopers, Kroger, Loaf N Jug, Loblaw, Meijer, Piggly Wiggly, Ralph's, Ralph's Fuel, Safeway, Sam's Club, Smith's Fuel, Supervalu, Target, Tesco, Von's Fuel, Wakefern Food Corp, Walmart, and Winn-Dixie. I keep using Costco card at Sam's club gas station for years. If I was aware of this fact, I would use another card which offers me at least 3% on gas purchase at any gas station. Huge lost for me!
I guess the best thing is DO NOT USE COSTCO CARD unless you're shopping at Costco. Costco also accepts other VISA card, and at least Bank of America also give me 2% cash back for shopping at wholesale store including Costco, Sams Club, BJ's...

It is "worldwide" AND at Costco. I have purchased out of state, it is 4%. Also, on the detailed statement of purchase categories, it shows earnings of 4% cashback when you use other gas stations...
