Currently, 8K is a complete waste of money. Even if people were able to get sufficient 8K content, it would only make a difference with TVs 85" or bigger.

You're basically telling me that you can perceive the difference between (four 8K pixels showing a color) and (one 4K pixel showing the same color) from your couch?
If you agree with the idea that "displays should only show content in their native resolution", nobody should ever buy a 4K TV either, because the vast majority of content people available is 1080 or lower.
(for the record I'm not advocating that anyone buy a 8K TV, it's dumb. but to say the 4K pic looks bad is...probably inaccurate)
