Only a deal if you specifically have 8k content, which is rare. 8k tv is substantially worse than 4k tv in picture quality.

Why? It's double the number of pixels of 4K (4x the number of pixels of 1080p) so it should scale perfectly fine unless there's some sort of image processing issue with this particular TV that I'm not aware of.

It's not like trying to watch 480 or 720 content on your 1080 or 4k set.

Screens always perform best when content is matched to the native resolution. Using 4 pixels for 1 in no way improves the picture quality

Could be the processor is not powerful enough. Like the Crystal for 4K.

I'd wait a few months to see how TCL's 2021 8k lineup does and more important is the probable driving down prices across the category. It's b.s. until it ships, but 85" 8k for under $1600 to start has to have some impact. TCL X12 8K.

Why is there any 8k push when everyone is dragging their feet on providing 4k content?

While I won't disagree with the 8k comments. The deal is that it's cheaper than it used to be, how you use it is kind of irrelevant

Im just letting people know that this is a poor tv to spend your money on unless u specifically want to watch 8k content, because almost everything supports only up to 4k, and when it comes to tvs in similar series or price ranges, 4k tvs can display 4k with better picture quality than 8k tvs can.

They just want for people to believe that they have old tech and they need to purchase a TV.

Currently, 8K is a complete waste of money. Even if people were able to get sufficient 8K content, it would only make a difference with TVs 85" or bigger.

You need 85" or bigger to see a difference between 4k and 8k content? Is that something that has been scientifically measured? It doesn't make any sense that they are making 8K TVs if that's the case.

Yes, you would need a XL TV AND you have to sit very, very close to it to see a difference.
If you had a 75 inch TV. You would have to sit 2 1/2 feet from it.

Thanks for that info. It seems that people with good vision that sit close can see a small difference in 8K vs 4k. I guess if your vision isn't great or you aren't sitting close you probably can't tell a difference.

"This study supports the notion that 8K is only marginally better than 4K in terms of perceived detail—and only with good visual acuity at a relatively close distance from the screen."

I'd say it's a bit of a wash. You're starting to get beyond our ability to perceive these pixels when you hit 8K.

You're basically telling me that you can perceive the difference between (four 8K pixels showing a color) and (one 4K pixel showing the same color) from your couch?

If you agree with the idea that "displays should only show content in their native resolution", nobody should ever buy a 4K TV either, because the vast majority of content people available is 1080 or lower.

(for the record I'm not advocating that anyone buy a 8K TV, it's dumb. but to say the 4K pic looks bad is...probably inaccurate)
