Below is an excerpt of the email that I received. Basically, if you don't pay $10 to get the Premium SIM to switch to a pathetic free plan (10 minutes, 10 texts, 25MB data) by May 1, they'll automatically switch your account to a $3.99 monthly plan and charge the credit card on file. I received this message even though I haven't used my free account in over a year. To cancel, call customer service at 888-702-8302. Very shady business practice to begin charging customers and I question the legality of it. Regardless, consider saving yourself a potential hassle and cancel your account

Upgrade today at FreedomPop.com.
If you do not migrate by May 1, 2021, your account will be automatically enrolled into the Essential Plan which offers 350MB and 200 minutes / 200 texts each month for only $3.99/mo.
Missed this thread and freedompop we will auto upgrade you emails. I woke up to charges from Freedompop. Logged into my PayPal to find they still have an active authorization. I was able to cancel future charges through PayPal. I wasn't able to login to freedompop because conveniently they didn't recognize my email address. What a scammy business practice.

you can chat with them and give email address or paypal address to cancel and hopefully refund the charges. I am talking to the rep now and she is trying to get it refunded.
if not always dispute with the credit card company.
I got charged $40 (2 x 20) on my PayPal. PayPal refused to refund mentioning that it was not an unauthorized charge. I had cancelled all my accounts already and have no active service when then. Not sure what to do.
Send a note to FTC and BBB. File a dispute. What they are doing is financial fraud. i.e. auto enrolling in services, which you didn't signed up for.

I did complain to BBB and wrote a long email to Freedompop explaining that I will do everything possible in my power to go after them if they do not fix this issue. They returned my $40 within few days. I was really prepared to complain everywhere I could.
I canceled service with FreedomPop 5 years and two different credit cards ago. I assumed incorrectly that I was done with them after confirming 0 charges in April-June. Sure enough, checked today and found 2 x $4.47 per month since July. Customer service at FP was ok and said could only refund one month, but would escalate the remaining charges……fortunately, my credit card company is taking over.
